“He’ll Kill Me”: Newlywed Wife of Merchant Navy Officer Found Dead, Family Alleges Murder

The CSR Journal Magazine

In a shocking incident, a 26-year-old woman, Madhu Singh, was found dead under suspicious circumstances at her apartment in Gomtinagar Extension. Her tragic death comes just six months after her marriage to Merchant Navy officer Anurag Singh. The incident, which initially appeared to be a suicide, has now taken a grim turn. This comes after the victim’s family alleged she was murdered by her husband.

According to reports, Madhu’s body was discovered hanging on Monday at her residence in Omaxe City. The police stated that her husband Anurag informed the authorities about the incident after bringing her body down with the help of a domestic worker. However, the victim’s family firmly believes the scene was staged to conceal the real cause of her death.

Harassment Allegations Emerge

Madhu’s father, Fateh Bahadur Singh, a resident of Indiranagar, has filed a formal complaint at the Sushant Golf City police station. In his statement, he accused Anurag of repeatedly harassing Madhu for dowry since their wedding on February 25. “Before Holi, he demanded additional dowry and physically assaulted my daughter. I fulfilled that demand, but the harassment continued. He would often torture her in my presence and threatened to extort more money by putting pressure on me,” the complaint reads.

The family further alleged that Anurag not only subjected Madhu to mental and physical torture but also forced her to undergo an abortion. Her sister, Priya, recounted a disturbing call from Madhu on March 10, during which she was allegedly beaten over a trivial issue. “She was terrified and pleaded for help, saying ‘Come quickly, or he will kill me,’” Madhu allegedly told Priya over the phone.

Signs of Control and Isolation

According to Priya, Madhu was gradually isolated from her loved ones. She was reportedly confined to the house, barred from going out or using social media freely. Anurag allegedly kept a strict watch over her phone and communication. On one occasion, he even accused the sisters of having an inappropriate relationship, Priya claimed.

An incident the day before Madhu’s death has also raised suspicions. The couple had reportedly gone out in their car, during which Anurag allegedly consumed alcohol and forced Madhu to drive. After she swerved the car to avoid a pothole, Anurag accused her of being distracted by other men and physically assaulted her in the vehicle.

Sudden Return Raises Questions

Madhu’s father pointed out discrepancies in Anurag’s movements. According to him, Anurag left for an assignment on April 30 and was expected to return after six months. However, he came back unexpectedly on July 22. “Why did he return early, and how did Madhu die so soon after?” he questioned.

He also challenged Anurag’s claim that their domestic help was on leave. During police interrogation, the housemaid confirmed she had reported to work on Monday but left after receiving no response at the door.

FIR Registered; Investigation Underway

Based on the complaint, the police have registered an FIR against Anurag Singh under sections BNS 85 (cruelty by husband or relatives), 89 (miscarriage without consent), 80(2) (dowry death), along with sections 3 and 4 of the Dowry Prohibition Act, 1961.

DCP, South Zone, Nipun Agarwal confirmed that the body has been sent for postmortem. “We are investigating all angles, including dowry harassment, physical abuse, and the possibility of murder,” he said.

Contradictions in Statements

While Anurag’s family maintains that they informed Madhu’s father immediately after her death, her family insists they were only contacted after the body was taken down. “She had called her sister the night before saying she was being beaten again. After that, all communication stopped. She was murdered that night,” her father alleged. “My daughter became pregnant after the marriage, but Anurag forced her to undergo an abortion,” Singh alleged further.

Madhu’s family has also alleged that Anurag was involved in extramarital affairs and that he was seen at a hotel in Lucknow with another woman days before Madhu’s death.
