A Naxalite was killed in an exchange of fire with security forces in Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur district on Thursday morning. The encounter took place in a forested area in the southern region of the district.

As per officials, the gun battle began around 7:30 am when personnel from the security forces were conducting an anti-Maoist operation in the area. During the operation, a group of Naxalites reportedly opened fire on the patrolling team, prompting a retaliatory response.

Security Forces Continue Search Operation Post-Encounter

Following the shootout, security forces continued to comb the surrounding forest to ensure the presence of any remaining insurgents could be addressed. A senior police officer stated that one Naxalite was neutralised during the encounter.

The operation involved personnel from various units engaged in counter-Naxal activities, including local police and other paramilitary forces. After the exchange of fire ended, a thorough search operation was launched to recover any weapons, explosives or documents that might provide further leads on the presence and movement of Maoist groups in the region.

Part of Ongoing Anti-Naxal Drive in Bastar Region

Bijapur district is part of the Bastar division, a region known for active Naxalite presence, and has seen several such operations in the past. Security forces have intensified their efforts in recent weeks as part of ongoing counter-insurgency measures aimed at weakening Naxalite strongholds in forested and border regions of Chhattisgarh.

Encounters between security forces and Maoist insurgents are not uncommon in this region, which has remained a focal point of anti-Naxal operations for many years. Authorities continue to deploy personnel in high-risk areas to maintain pressure on the insurgents and prevent the regrouping of armed cadres.

No Casualties Among Security Personnel

Officials confirmed that no injuries or casualties were reported among the security personnel involved in the operation. The identity of the deceased Naxalite is yet to be confirmed by the authorities.
