The National Career Service (NCS) portal has mobilised over 10.05 crore vacancies since its inception, according to Union Minister of Labour and Employment, Mansukh Mandaviya. In a written response to the Lok Sabha on August 3, 2026, he provided an overview of the portal’s function as a centralised platform aimed at aiding both job seekers and employers. The NCS portal is designed to offer a variety of employment assistance services, including job seeker registration, vacancy collection from companies, and vocational guidance.

Mandaviya noted that the transformation of the National Employment Service into the NCS has created a cohesive one-stop solution for career-related services. This includes opportunities from both private and government sectors, information about job fairs, job search matching, career counselling, and data on skill development programmes. The accessibility of these services is facilitated through the portal’s digital platform, which can be visited at www.ncs.gov.in.

Since its establishment, the NCS portal has seen registrations from over 6.64 crore job seekers, with approximately 2.89 crore of those being active as of July 15, 2026. The statistics indicate that the portal continues to play a significant role in connecting job seekers with employment opportunities.

Portal Enhancements and Technological Integration

Mandaviya conveyed that the ongoing enhancement of the NCS is a dynamic process. The government has committed to reviewing and updating the portal to meet the changing requirements of the job market. With the NCS now upgraded to a cloud-based, open-architecture platform, efforts to improve its functionality are consistently pursued.

Recent technological upgrades include the integration of artificial intelligence features that enable intelligent job matching, skills gap analysis, and personalised job recommendations. The introduction of a mobile application aims to further enhance user accessibility and experience. These features are designed to create a more efficient and user-friendly environment for both job seekers and employers.

Furthermore, the portal has developed connections with other public and private job and skill portals to broaden its outreach and effectiveness. These partnerships facilitate a comprehensive, multifaceted approach to employment services.

Public-Private Partnerships and Model Career Centres

The government has signed over 40 Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with various public and private entities to bolster employment initiatives. Notable partners include companies like Swiggy, Zomato, and Amazon, which contribute to initiatives such as job fairs, skill development programmes, and career counselling available on the NCS portal.

The NCS also operates in conjunction with various government portals, including Udyam, eShram, and Skill India Digital Hub, ensuring that it remains aligned with governmental recruitment bodies such as the Union Public Service Commission and Staff Selection Commission. These collaborations enhance the portal’s capacity to provide robust employment services.

The NCS initiative also aims to establish Model Career Centres (MCCs) to modernise Employment Exchanges throughout the country. These centres are tasked with delivering career-related services, organising job fairs, and providing localised career counselling to jobseekers. As of now, the government has approved the establishment of 407 MCCs, including 370 previously existing Employment Exchanges that have been upgraded.

Finally, 31 States and Union Territories have been integrated with the NCS portal, thereby broadening its reach and functionality to accommodate the varying employment needs across the country.
