MS Dhoni Joins Chennai Super Kings Camp in Chennai, Fans Give Rousing Welcome

The CSR Journal Magazine

MS Dhoni, the former captain of the Indian cricket team, made his much-anticipated arrival in Chennai on Saturday, February 28, joining the Chennai Super Kings’ pre-season training camp in preparation for the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026. The iconic cricketer was greeted with enthusiastic cheers as he walked through the airport, where numerous fans had gathered to catch a glimpse of him. This year, Dhoni opted for a simple attire, wearing a maroon round-neck T-shirt paired with blue jeans, departing from last year’s appearance where he wore a T-shirt with a mysterious message.

Contrast to Last Year’s Message

In 2025, Dhoni’s arrival sparked excitement when he wore a T-shirt featuring Morse code that translated to “One last time.” This led to widespread speculation about his future involvement in cricket, prompting many fans to suggest that the IPL 2025 season might be his last. Despite the uncertainty that followed the message, Dhoni participated in all 14 matches for the Super Kings, even stepping in as captain during the latter part of the season when Ruturaj Gaikwad was sidelined due to an injury. As of now, it remains uncertain whether Dhoni will commit to playing all matches for CSK this season.

Training Regimen and Preparation

Before arriving in Chennai, Dhoni had been engaged in a rigorous training routine in Ranchi, focusing on his fitness for IPL 2026, which is set to kick off in the final week of March. He displayed an impressive physical condition upon his arrival, emphasizing his dedication to maintaining his fitness levels as he approaches 45. His pre-season training included sessions at the Jharkhand State Cricket Association (JSCA) Stadium, where he reportedly followed a structured daily plan that commenced around 1:30 PM.

Pilgrimage to Deori Maa Temple

Staying true to his traditions, Dhoni also visited the Deori Maa Temple in Tamar, located roughly 60 kilometers from Ranchi, prior to his trip to Chennai. Dressed modestly, he performed a special puja to seek blessings from the deity, a ritual he has upheld before each of Chennai Super Kings’ five victorious campaigns in the IPL. For many fans at the temple, Dhoni’s visit was perceived as a significant and auspicious prelude to the new IPL season, fueling hopes for a sixth title.

Changes in Training and Equipment

Reports indicate that Dhoni’s training routine consisted of a well-balanced mix of skill development and physical conditioning. His sessions included two hours dedicated to batting practice, which focused on power-hitting and match scenarios. This was complemented by an hour in the gym for strength training. To mitigate physical stress, Dhoni replaced high-impact cardio workouts with swimming for half an hour each day. One significant adjustment to his preparation this year involves the use of a customized bat, lighter than those he has traditionally used throughout his career. The new bat weighs 1.23 kilograms, allowing for improved speed and control against fast bowlers during critical game moments.

Dhoni’s Readiness for Another IPL Season

With his arrival in Chennai and ongoing preparations for the IPL 2026, Dhoni’s commitment and readiness for another season are evident, much to the delight of Chennai Super Kings’ supporters. His ability to adapt to the evolving demands of the game underlines his determination to contribute effectively as he embarks on this new chapter in his storied cricket career.
