Monsoon Havoc Across India: 9 Dead in Himachal and Rajasthan, Odisha on Red Alert

Heavy downpour is causing havoc across India, 4 died in Himachal Pradesh and 5 swept away in Kota, Rajasthan after water was released from the reservoir. More than 200 roads in Himachal are out of bounds with heavy traffic and 12 districts in Jharkhand are on high alert.

In Himachal, more than 200 roads are out of bounds for vehicular traffic, a majority of them in Mandi, while a flash flood warning has been issued for 12 districts in Jharkhand.

Monsoon has set in India since June 20; some 61 people have died in different states. In the last 24 hours, 198 mm rain has been recorded in Khatauli, Kota, Rajasthan, this is the highest in the state. On Monday afternoon, five people drowned in Chambal River, after a sudden rise in water level, after 12 gates of Kota Barrage were opened. A Junior Engineer at Kota Barrage shared that approximately 2.2692 lakh cusecs of water have been released.

As per the Met department, low pressure has developed above Madhya Pradesh and the impact is seen in Kota, Jodhpur, Ajmer and Udaipur, since Monday, it has been raining. Meanwhile, the capital saw a decent drizzle. The local Meteorological Department has sounded an Orange alert, forecasting heavy to very heavy rainfall in Kangra, Mandi, and Sirmaur on Monday. On Tuesday, similar conditions are expected in Shimla, Solan, and Sirmaur.

On the eastern side, Odisha is on alert, IMD has cautioned fishermen to avoid sailing for the next 24 hours, as gusty wind would prevail along north Odisha. Districts like Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar and Sundargarh are on red alert.
