The CSR Journal Magazine

A man in Morbi, Gujarat, has been arrested for allegedly setting fire to a neighbour’s vehicle after becoming frustrated with its honking sensors. The incident reportedly occurred in the Vaghpara locality, where the car, owned by advocate Pushpaben Bhatt, was parked outside her residence. The accused, identified as Shikhar Jayeshbhai Gohel, is said to have used an inflammable liquid to ignite the vehicle, resulting in significant damage.

According to police sources, the estimated damage caused by the fire is around Rs 3.5 lakh. The situation escalated when Gohel, reportedly irritated by the car’s sensors activating the horn whenever he approached, decided to take drastic action. CCTV footage from the area captured the moment he allegedly set the car ablaze, leading to a swift police response.

Details of the Arrest

Following the incident, a complaint was lodged at the Morbi A Division police station. Authorities acted promptly, leading to the arrest of Gohel. Morbi Deputy Superintendent of Police J M Aal stated that the investigation is ongoing, with officers collecting evidence and statements to build a comprehensive case. The police have registered a formal case against the accused under relevant sections of the law.

The incident has raised concerns among local residents regarding safety and the potential for similar acts of vandalism. Authorities are urging the community to report any suspicious activities and to remain vigilant. The police are also examining the broader implications of such behaviour in the neighbourhood.

This event follows another incident in Morbi, where a different vehicle was reportedly set on fire by two unidentified individuals on Ravapar Road. The connection between the two incidents is currently being investigated, as police seek to determine whether there is a pattern of criminal activity in the area.

Community Reactions and Safety Concerns

Residents in the Vaghpara area have expressed their shock at the incident. Many have voiced concerns over the safety of their vehicles and the potential for escalating tensions among neighbours. The local community is reportedly discussing measures to enhance security, including the installation of additional surveillance cameras and better communication among residents.

Furthermore, the police have indicated that they will increase patrols in the area to deter any future incidents. Community leaders are also planning to hold meetings to address safety concerns and to foster a sense of unity among residents. The aim is to prevent misunderstandings that could lead to similar confrontations.

As investigations continue, local authorities are emphasising the importance of resolving disputes amicably and avoiding actions that could lead to criminal charges. They are encouraging residents to seek mediation in conflicts rather than resorting to violence or vandalism.
