Man Detained in Kota for Threatening Rahul Gandhi and Congress MPs

The CSR Journal Magazine

A man has been taken into custody by the Rajasthan police in Kota after allegedly posting a video in which he threatened to shoot Rahul Gandhi, a prominent Congress MP and leader of the opposition, along with 25 other members of the party. The individual, who identified himself as Raj Singh, is purportedly a spokesperson for the right-wing organization Karni Sena. This threat was reportedly made in response to an incident in the Lok Sabha involving 25 Congress MPs and Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla during the recent Budget session in Parliament.

Threatening Statements

In the video that surfaced online, Singh condemned what he described as insults directed at Speaker Om Birla by the Congress lawmakers. He stated that if such behavior were to occur again, he and others would “enter the homes” of the MPs. Singh specifically targeted Rahul Gandhi, declaring, “If such an incident occurs again, we will barge into your home and shoot you.” He further threatened that if the 25 Congress MPs were not detained within 24 hours, they would be targeted, stating, “Otherwise, we will shoot them all one by one.”

Police Action

Following the emergence of the video on social media, Kota police initiated action and apprehended the suspect. Tejaswani Gautam, the Superintendent of Police in Kota, confirmed that Singh is currently being held at the Borkheda police station, where he is undergoing interrogation regarding his threats. In the background of the video, a photograph featuring Prime Minister Narendra Modi shaking hands with Speaker Om Birla is reportedly visible.

Party Responses

Both the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Karni Sena have distanced themselves from Singh. Rakesh Jain, the BJP city president in Kota, stated that the individual has no affiliation with the party. He emphasized that the BJP is a disciplined organization committed to national development and condemned the threats as contradictory to its ideology. A senior leader from the Karni Sena also asserted that Singh does not represent their organization. The police are continuing their investigation into the matter.

Congress Reaction

In response to the threats made against Rahul Gandhi, Congress MP KC Venugopal criticized the atmosphere created by the BJP and the Sangh Parivar, stating that their actions impede Gandhi’s ability to speak in Parliament. He highlighted the seriousness of the threats, noting that the Sangh Parivar has indicated a desire to harm Gandhi and the 25 MPs. Venugopal expressed concern that no formal complaints have been filed regarding these threats, which he described as an indication of anarchy. He reassured that the Congress party knows how to safeguard their leader and that Gandhi is adequately aware of how to protect himself, dismissing the threats as unperturbed.
