Man Clings to Car Bonnet for 4 Kilometers After Taxi Dispute in Uttar Pradesh

The CSR Journal Magazine

A dramatic incident unfolded in the Lakhimpur Kheri district of Uttar Pradesh, where a taxi driver reportedly hung onto the bonnet of a speeding car for nearly four kilometers. The event, which took place near the India-Nepal border, has captured widespread attention on social media following the circulation of a video showing the alarming scene. This confrontation was said to arise from tensions between competing taxi operators in the border area.

Local Driver Attempts to Prevent Service

According to eyewitness accounts, the altercation began when a taxi from Lucknow arrived at the location to pick up passengers. Local drivers objected, asserting that the Lucknow taxi was unauthorized to operate in that vicinity. Amidst this escalating conflict, a local taxi driver identified as Rambaksh Gupta, hailing from Palia, took to the bonnet of the Lucknow taxi in an effort to halt its escape with prospective riders.

High-Speed Pursuit and Rescue Operation

The situation quickly escalated as the driver of the Lucknow taxi allegedly accelerated, with Gupta still atop the bonnet. Reports indicate that the vehicle reached speeds of up to 100 kilometers per hour during the four-kilometer journey. In the footage that has gone viral, Gupta can be seen gripping the car’s windshield wipers in a desperate attempt to stabilize himself while being dragged along at high speed.

Local Drivers Intervene

As the incident progressed, other taxi drivers in the area pursued the speeding vehicle. They were able to stop the car, effectively rescuing Gupta from a potentially dangerous situation. Gupta later spoke about his harrowing experience, noting the high speeds at which he was dragged and the precarious nature of his grip on the wiper to avoid falling off.

Police Initiate Investigation

Law enforcement has taken action in response to the viral video documenting the incident. The Circle Officer of Palia, Jitendra Singh Parihar, confirmed that a case has been filed under relevant legal sections. Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the confrontation and the actions of the involved parties are currently ongoing, as authorities seek to address the underlying issues among taxi operators in the area.
