The CSR Journal Magazine

A 23-year-old man has been arrested in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh, in connection with the murder of his friend over a minor financial disagreement involving only Rs 20. The accused, identified as Sameer alias Gattu, allegedly stabbed the victim, Mushtaq, 23, during a heated argument. The incident escalated quickly, resulting in Mushtaq sustaining critical injuries.

Following the stabbing, Mushtaq was rushed to a hospital, where he ultimately succumbed to his injuries while receiving treatment. Sameer reportedly fled the scene immediately after the attack, prompting local law enforcement to register a murder case and initiate a manhunt for his apprehension.

The police undertook extensive efforts to locate Sameer, who had been evading capture since the incident occurred. Authorities received information about his whereabouts, leading to surveillance in key areas known for high foot traffic, particularly where he was likely to be found.

Arrest and Encounter with Police

On Thursday, August 20, a police team was conducting vehicle checks in the Shalimar Garden district of Ghaziabad when they observed a man on a motorcycle exhibiting suspicious behaviour. Upon signalling him to stop, he allegedly attempted to flee from the scene, triggering a pursuit by the police.

During the chase, the motorcycle collided with a garbage heap, causing the rider to crash. Following the fall, the accused reportedly opened fire at the police. In response, law enforcement personnel engaged in retaliatory fire, resulting in the suspect receiving a gunshot wound to his left leg. He was subsequently apprehended and taken into custody.

After his arrest, the individual was confirmed to be Sameer, the suspect wanted for Mushtaq’s murder. Upon searching his possession, the police recovered a knife, an unlicensed pistol, one live cartridge, and one spent cartridge, further substantiating the allegations against him.

Criminal Background and Ongoing Investigation

Authorities have disclosed that Sameer has been previously implicated in numerous criminal cases in Ghaziabad, including charges related to rioting, attempted murder, and violations of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act. These existing charges indicate a troubling history of violent behaviour and criminal activities.

Currently, Sameer has been admitted to a hospital for treatment of his injuries sustained during the police encounter. Law enforcement officials have confirmed that further inquiries are being conducted to thoroughly investigate Sameer’s criminal background and to gather additional details surrounding the circumstances of Mushtaq’s death.

The police have assured the public that they are committed to ensuring a thorough and transparent investigation in this case. Authorities are focusing on not only resolving this incident but also examining the broader aspects of Sameer’s criminal history to prevent further occurrences of such violence in the community.
