‘Make a Deal Before It’s Too Late’: Trump’s Message to Iran After Bridge Strike

The CSR Journal Magazine

On April 3, US President Donald Trump made a statement regarding the damage to a significant bridge in Iran, asserting that it had been destroyed. In a post on Truth Social, Trump emphasized the need for Iran to negotiate a deal promptly, warning that time was running out for the country. The president accompanied his post with a video showing the bridge’s collapse and proclaimed, “The biggest bridge in Iran comes tumbling down, never to be used again. Much more to follow! IT IS TIME FOR IRAN TO MAKE A DEAL BEFORE IT IS TOO LATE, AND THERE IS NOTHING LEFT OF WHAT STILL COULD BECOME A GREAT COUNTRY!”

Iranian state television reported that the incident involved an attack on the bridge that connects a province to the capital, Tehran, resulting in at least two fatalities and several injuries. The timing and circumstances surrounding the attack were not elaborated upon in Trump’s post or subsequent communications.

US Military Statements on Operations

Earlier in the day, US Central Command (CENTCOM) provided an operational update through a post on X, where Commander Admiral Brad Cooper stated that the US is witnessing “undeniable progress” in its ongoing military campaign against Iran, which is now in its fifth week. Admiral Cooper remarked on the lack of Iranian naval activity and air operations, indicating that their air and missile defense systems have been largely compromised. The statement aimed to underscore the effectiveness of the campaign thus far.

Israeli Defence Forces Report Actions in Iran

In parallel developments, the Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) disseminated information related to their military activities in Iran, asserting that over 50 targets associated with Iran’s ballistic missile program have been struck. The IDF claimed that the Israeli Air Force conducted more than 20 airstrikes in central and western Tehran, targeting multiple launch sites and storage facilities with over 140 munitions deployed. These operations were explicitly aimed at degrading Iran’s military capabilities.

Targeting Key Iranian Leadership

Furthermore, the IDF reported that Jamshid Eshaqi, identified as the commander of Iran’s Oil Headquarters, was killed in these operations. The IDF described this entity as a crucial component enabling the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) to finance its activities through oil revenue. According to the IDF, Eshaqi played a significant role in managing finances for military industries responsible for developing ballistic missiles and financing Iran’s proxy activities across the region.

Context of Increasing Tension in the Region

This latest development unfolds amid rising tensions in West Asia and the Gulf region, as confrontations between US-Israeli forces and Iran enter a second month. The situation has drawn attention from various international observers, reflecting a complex geopolitical landscape.
