Maharashtra: Police Daughter, Partner Accused of Poisoning Head Constable Father

The CSR Journal Magazine

Authorities in Chandrapur, Maharashtra, have apprehended two police officers linked to a case of unnatural death that occurred in April 2023. Initially reported as a sudden illness experienced by Head Constable Jayant Ballawar, the investigation has since uncovered that the incident was, in fact, a murder orchestrated by his daughter and her partner, both serving as police personnel. Alongside the two officers, a third individual has been arrested, and a minor has been taken into custody regarding the investigation.

Revelations Following a Dispute

The alleged conspiracy was disclosed by the woman’s lover, Ashish Mahesh Shedmake, who is also a police constable. He reported that Arya Jayant Ballawar, his partner and daughter of the deceased officer, poisoned her father due to his disapproval of their relationship. Ashish stated that he procured the poison with the assistance of a minor relative and Chaitanya alias Monty Sachin Gedam. On April 25, 2023, Arya purportedly mixed the poison into her father’s milkshake before serving it to him.

Sequence of Events Leading to Death

Following consumption of the tainted beverage, Jayant Ballawar experienced a rapid decline in health and was immediately transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Initially, the police had classified the case as an unnatural death, and Arya’s initial testimony caused the case to be set aside. It has been reported that Ashish disclosed further details of the case only after a quarrel with Arya.

Charges Filed Against the Accused

The arrests were made after Ashish filed a complaint, resulting in a reevaluation of the circumstances surrounding Jayant Ballawar’s death. Authorities have since invoked various criminal statutes, including those pertaining to murder, criminal conspiracy, and providing false statements. It is noteworthy that at the time of the incident, both Arya and Ashish were not yet active duty officers, having only begun their training in 2025.
