AICWA Urges PM Modi to Enhance Security for Bollywood Personalities

The CSR Journal Magazine

The All Indian Cine Workers Association (AICWA) has formally requested Prime Minister Narendra Modi to address the escalating security threats faced by Bollywood stars and their families. This appeal follows a series of alarming incidents, including an attack on actor Tiger Shroff and a recent threat to veteran actor Amitabh Bachchan. The AICWA’s letter, dated November 3, highlights the urgent need for enhanced security measures and an investigation into the alleged gang networks behind these events.

During a recent public appearance on November 1, Amitabh Bachchan was seen behind protective glass, a stark departure from his usual interactions with fans outside his Mumbai residence. The 84-year-old actor has greeted admirers every Sunday for over four decades, making this incident particularly unsettling for the film industry. AICWA president Suresh Shyam Lal Gupta expressed that such a sight has left the industry in shock, noting that fans travel from across the country and abroad to see the actor.

The association pointed out that the image of Bachchan behind bulletproof glass serves as a troubling reminder of the current climate of fear within the film sector. The letter emphasised that while bulletproof vehicles are common, seeing a prominent figure take such precautions in public is unprecedented and indicative of a deeper issue affecting the industry.

Recent Incidents Highlight Growing Threats

AICWA’s letter also detailed various incidents that have raised alarms within the Bollywood community. It mentioned the murder of politician Baba Siddique in Bandra, firing incidents outside Salman Khan’s residence, and a knife attack on Saif Ali Khan. Additionally, the association cited multiple shooting incidents targeting comedian Kapil Sharma’s cafe in Canada, and most recently, the attack on Tiger Shroff in Juhu, a well-known area in Mumbai.

The attack on Shroff reportedly occurred in a crowded location, where two individuals were injured. AICWA asserted that Shroff has no known enemies, suggesting that the attack was intended to instil fear rather than settle personal scores. The association believes that such incidents are part of a broader trend of extortion and threats directed at the film industry, which has become a lucrative target for criminal gangs.

In the letter, AICWA highlighted an alleged extortion demand of Rs 5 crore involving actor Tusshar Kapoor. The association argued that the visibility of Bollywood both domestically and internationally makes its prominent figures appealing targets for gangs seeking notoriety and financial gain.

Call for Immediate Action and Investigation

AICWA has expressed deep concerns regarding the overall law-and-order situation in Mumbai. The association stated that if high-profile celebrities are vulnerable to such threats in supposedly secure areas, ordinary citizens would also feel unsafe. They noted that the resurgence of underworld terror in the city poses a significant risk to public safety.

In light of these developments, AICWA has urged the Prime Minister to take personal responsibility for ensuring the safety of film industry members and their families. They have called for immediate protective measures and a thorough investigation into the alleged gang networks involved in these attacks.

The letter also mentioned that several actors, including Salman Khan and Akshay Kumar, have recently upgraded their security measures, with some installing bulletproof glass in their homes. This trend underscores the severity of the threats faced by those in the industry, indicating that the situation has reached a critical level.
