UP Government to Install Statues of Historical Figures in Twelve Districts

The CSR Journal Magazine

The Uttar Pradesh government is set to install statues of notable historical figures across twelve districts, as announced by Tourism and Culture Minister Jaiveer Singh on Tuesday. This initiative aims to honour the contributions of these leaders and to educate the younger generation about their legacies. The culture department is currently in the process of preparing pedestals for the statues, which are intended to serve as sources of inspiration for the youth.

According to Singh, the districts selected for this project include Lucknow, Agra, Gorakhpur, Shahjahanpur, Pratapgarh, Ghazipur, Gonda, Firozabad, Moradabad, Barabanki, Maharajganj, and Varanasi. The installation of these statues is expected to foster a greater appreciation for the historical figures represented.

Details of the Statues to Be Installed

A notable feature of this initiative is the installation of a 12.5-foot equestrian bronze statue of Prithviraj Chauhan in Lucknow. Agra will also receive a statue of Maharaja Surajmal, which will be similar in size. In Gorakhpur, a standing bronze statue of Guru Gorakhnath, also measuring 12.5 feet, will be placed near the airport, while Shahjahanpur will feature an equestrian statue of Maharana Pratap at Bareilly Mod.

Additionally, Pratapgarh and Ghazipur will each host 12.5-foot standing bronze statues of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. Gonda is set to receive a six-foot bronze statue of Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya, while Firozabad will have a three-foot bronze bust of martyr Captain Devesh Kumar Kulshreshtha in Machhan village. This diverse array of statues is intended to represent various aspects of India’s rich historical tapestry.

Moradabad and Varanasi will also feature equestrian statues of Maharana Pratap, further emphasising the significance of this historical figure in the region. It is worth noting that a statue initially proposed for Rampur has been relocated to Barabanki, reflecting the government’s ongoing adjustments to the project.

Coordination and Timeline for Installation

Minister Singh mentioned that the culture department is actively coordinating with local representatives and district magistrates to ensure the timely completion of pedestal construction and the installation of the statues. This collaboration aims to facilitate a smooth process and to meet the anticipated deadlines for unveiling the statues.

The initiative is part of a broader effort by the Uttar Pradesh government to promote cultural heritage and historical awareness among its citizens. By installing these statues, the government hopes to create landmarks that not only beautify the districts but also serve as educational tools for the community.

As the project progresses, the government remains committed to honouring the legacies of these historical figures and ensuring that their contributions are recognised and remembered. The installation of these statues is expected to commence soon, with the culture department working diligently to bring this vision to fruition.
