The CSR Journal Magazine

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has announced that the state budget for the upcoming fiscal year will prominently feature initiatives aimed at women cowherds, poultry farmers, and goat farmers. This emphasis coincides with the designation of the current year as the International Year of Women Farmers. Fadnavis stated that special incentive programs will be rolled out to support these groups, reinforcing the government’s commitment to their development.

Incentives and Loan Waiver for Farmers

During the presentation of the 2026-27 state budget, the Chief Minister proposed several financial incentives, including a one-time assistance of Rs 50,000 for farmers who demonstrate consistent loan repayment. Furthermore, a farm loan waiver initiative was introduced, enabling eligible farmers with overdue crop loans to receive relief of up to Rs 2 lakh. These measures are part of the government’s broader agricultural strategies aimed at ensuring farmer welfare.

Focused Initiatives on Agriculture and Infrastructure

The 2026-27 budget outlines a wide range of initiatives designed to further agriculture, infrastructure, industry, social welfare, and green energy. These initiatives reflect the administration’s vision for a progressive, sustainable, and inclusive Maharashtra. Among these plans is a commitment to promoting natural farming practices across five lakh hectares, alongside the strengthening of agricultural value chains for 10 to 15 key crops to enhance their access to global markets.

Technology Integration in Agriculture

The Maharashtra government plans to incorporate artificial intelligence and digital platforms into farming activities to improve productivity. It also aims to establish AI innovation and incubation centres at four agricultural universities, indicating a proactive approach towards modernising the agricultural sector.

Women’s Empowerment Initiatives

A significant allocation of funds has been designated for various women’s empowerment programs, particularly the Mukhyamantri Majhi Ladki Bahin scheme. The government aims to expand its efforts in creating “Lakhpati Didis,” with a target of establishing an additional 25 lakh women entrepreneurs by the end of the 2026-27 fiscal year. This investment in women’s entrepreneurship highlights the government’s commitment to gender equality in economic development.

Budget Overview and Economic Goals

The total outlay proposed in the budget for 2026-27 is estimated at Rs 7.69 lakh crore. Revenue receipts are projected to be Rs 6.16 lakh crore, while revenue expenditure is anticipated at Rs 6.56 lakh crore. The state government has articulated its ambition to propel Maharashtra towards becoming a one trillion-dollar economy in the near future, with the budget serving as a foundational step in this direction.
