Madhya Pradesh’s Chief Minister Mohan Yadav is set to transfer more than Rs 1,835.67 crore to the bank accounts of approximately 1.25 crore women beneficiaries. This transfer marks the 36th instalment of the Ladli Behna Scheme and is scheduled for Wednesday. The transaction will be carried out through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) during a programme at Gotegaon in Narsinghpur district.

Overview of the Ladli Behna Scheme

Launched in June 2023, the Ladli Behna Scheme aims to foster economic empowerment, self-reliance, and dignity among women in Madhya Pradesh. Since the programme’s initiation, 35 instalments have been successfully transferred to beneficiaries’ accounts up to April 2026. According to official data, from June 2023 to April 2026, a total of Rs 55,926.51 crore has been deposited into beneficiaries’ accounts via DBT.

Initially, the scheme provided eligible women with Rs 1,000 per month. This amount was increased to Rs 1,250 in October 2023 and further raised to Rs 1,500 per month in November 2025. Furthermore, the scheme includes provisions for women receiving lower amounts under social security pension schemes, ensuring comprehensive assistance.

The government has indicated that the scheme has successfully improved women’s roles in family decision-making, bolstered their economic status, and enhanced household nutrition, education, and healthcare. Many participants have reportedly joined self-help groups, initiated small businesses, or engaged in self-employment activities following consistent financial support.

Financial Commitments to the Scheme

Financial allocations for the Ladli Behna Scheme have been substantial, with the state government spending Rs 14,726.05 crore in the financial year 2023-24 and projected expenditures of Rs 19,051.39 crore for 2024-25 and Rs 20,318.53 crore for 2025-26. For the upcoming financial year 2026-27, a budget provision of Rs 23,882.81 crore has been earmarked.

The programme extends its benefits to various groups of women, including those in rural, tribal, and urban areas, as well as widowed, divorced, and abandoned individuals. Funds are transferred directly to Aadhaar-linked bank accounts, a measure implemented to ensure transparency and timely distribution of financial aid.

As the initiative progresses, the government maintains its commitment to supporting women’s financial independence and improving their overall socio-economic conditions. The ongoing financial assistance, coupled with the structure of the programme, aims to create a lasting impact on participants’ lives, fostering a culture of empowerment and support across the state.
