Luxury “Bunker” Discovered in Raid on Absconding TMC Leader’s Residence

The CSR Journal Magazine

During a targeted search operation on Tuesday, police investigators were left stunned after discovering a hidden, lavish subterranean chamber inside the home of Shamim Ahmed, also known as “Bade.” Ahmed, a prominent local leader of the Trinamool Congress (TMC) in Middle Howrah, is currently evading arrest following a wave of post-poll violence.

A Palace Beneath the Surface

Acting on leads regarding Ahmed’s whereabouts, officers from the Shibpur Police Station raided his residence in Ward 36. While the exterior of the house appeared standard for the neighborhood, the interior revealed a “palatial” setup. Hidden behind a discreet entrance, investigators found a secret tunnel leading to a luxury suite.

The underground room featured opulent décor, including ornate hand-carved furniture, designer dressing tables, and high-end fixtures that witnesses described as resembling a cinematic set. The discovery has raised significant questions regarding the source of wealth used to fund such a lifestyle for a local political functionary.

Serious Allegations and Criminal History

Shamim Ahmed, known to be a close associate of former minister Arup Roy, is the primary accused in a recent attack on a minority wing leader of the BJP in the Chaurabasti area. The assault allegedly involved heavy stone-pelting, bombings, and gunfire.

This is not Ahmed’s first brush with high-level law enforcement. Years prior, he was arrested by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) for his alleged involvement in the violent attack on a Ram Navami rally in Howrah. Despite his controversial past, he reportedly maintained a position of significant influence under the umbrella of the ruling party.

Political Firestorm

The raid has triggered a political war of words. BJP leaders, including Rudranil Ghosh, alleged that such “secret tunnels” are indicative of a deeper criminal network involved in land promotion and illegal trades. While the TMC has yet to release an official statement regarding the “bunker,” the police have seized several documents from the premises as the manhunt for the “missing” leader continues.
