Lisa Kudrow Reflects on Finding Comfort in FRIENDS After Matthew Perry’s Passing

The CSR Journal Magazine

Actor Lisa Kudrow has shared how revisiting the iconic television series FRIENDS has provided her with comfort following the death of her co-star, Matthew Perry. While the show has taken on profound emotional significance for Kudrow, she expressed that she feels “too embarrassed” to watch it around her family and prefers to do so privately. During her appearance on The Scott Mills Breakfast Show, she mentioned, “I watch FRIENDS at night before going to bed. I haven’t seen a lot of episodes.” She further explained her preference for solitary viewing, saying, “I’m too embarrassed for anyone to see me watching it.” Although her husband, Michel Stern, is aware of her routine, Kudrow finds solace in her alone time with the series.

Busy Filming Schedule Limited Viewing

Kudrow reflected on her earlier experiences with the show, noting that she did not watch many episodes during its original airing due to a demanding filming schedule. “Only the first couple of seasons because we were busy. I don’t think any of us watched every episode. And we were also not hanging out watching the show as it’s being shot,” she recalled. Initially, the cast would gather to watch episodes together, but the intense workload soon made such moments rare.

Marathon Viewings Bring Reflection

In light of Perry’s passing, Kudrow has found herself returning to the sitcom to help cope with her loss. She has been watching marathon episodes on television, stating that it has been a source of comfort for her. “He was so funny, I mean, the funniest,” she fondly remembered Perry’s role as Chandler Bing. “Sorry, everybody else, but just truly.” According to Kudrow, watching the series at this point in time feels both “important” and “kind of healing.”

Current Progress in Rewatching

As Kudrow continues to revisit FRIENDS, she revealed that she has reached the finale of season eight, which features the significant moment when Rachel and Ross welcome their daughter, Emma. The beloved sitcom originally aired from 1994 to 2004 and comprises a total of 236 episodes, maintaining a cherished place in Kudrow’s heart. Her reflections and emotions tied to the series highlight how art and memories can serve as vital sources of strength during difficult times.
