Iran’s President Participates in Quds Day Rally Amid Ongoing Strikes

The CSR Journal Magazine

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian joined a large crowd in Tehran during the annual Quds Day rally, even as explosions were reported in the vicinity. The event took place against the backdrop of heightened hostilities, with state media indicating that at least one woman died due to strikes near the capital. Footage broadcast by state television depicted Pezeshkian engaging with supporters and taking selfies on the rain-soaked streets as demonstrators rallied in support of Palestine.

High-Profile Leaders Present

The Quds Day rally saw a gathering of several senior Iranian officials, emphasizing their public commitment amid ongoing military actions. Notable attendees included national security chief Ali Larijani, judiciary chief Gholam Hossein Mohseni Ejei, national police chief Ahmad-Reza Radan, and foreign minister Abbas Araghchi. Images from state television showcased these officials mingling with the crowd, who waved banners and shouted slogans directed against perceived adversaries.

Strikes Interrupt Rally Dynamics

During the demonstration, judiciary chief Gholam Hossein Mohseni Ejei was speaking to a reporter when a nearby strike occurred. Security personnel quickly shielded him, while he raised his fist and declared, “Iran under this rain and missiles will never withdraw.” Ejei expressed that the Iranian populace would not be intimidated by the attacks and would continue their path forward. This incident highlighted the ongoing tensions surrounding the demonstration.

Explosions Close to Demonstration Site

State television later reported that significant explosions were felt in central Tehran, not far from where the rally was held. Prior to these events, Israel had signaled intentions to target areas within Tehran. Despite this threat, Iranian authorities permitted the Quds Day demonstration to go ahead, reflecting a complex standoff between the two nations nearly two weeks into escalating conflict.

Show of Solidarity for Khamenei Family

Participants at the rally displayed solidarity by carrying images of the late supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and his son Mojtaba Khamenei, believed to be his successor. The demonstrators trampled on images of U.S. President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Mojtaba Khamenei, who reportedly sustained injuries during recent strikes, issued a written statement but did not make a public appearance.

Iran Accuses US and Israel

In statements made during the rally, Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi accused the U.S. and Israel of instigating turmoil in the region, claiming their actions had detrimental effects on global energy prices. He asserted that these powers should be held accountable for the ongoing instability. President Pezeshkian also emphasized Iran’s resilience and determination, addressing Trump directly and stating that increased pressure would only strengthen the resolve of the Iranian people.

US Claims Reduction in Iran’s Military Capability

In contrast, U.S. defense officials asserted that Iran’s military capabilities have been severely compromised during the ongoing conflict. U.S. War Secretary Pete Hegseth remarked that the coordinated operations of U.S. and Israeli forces had rendered Iran’s military ineffective. He detailed significant reductions in both Iran’s air force and navy, claiming a drastic decline in missile capacity.

Continuation of Hostilities

The conflict between Iran and Israel has entered its second week, with ongoing strikes and indications that the confrontation is far from resolved. This situation remains fluid and continues to evolve, further impacting regional stability.
