Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw explained the rationale behind providing two bedsheets during a parliamentary session. The second bedsheet is suggested for use underneath the blanket, ensuring that the blanket does not directly contact the passenger’s body.

According to the minister, the bedsheet that is positioned underneath the blanket is washed after each use. This practice is aimed at maintaining cleanliness and hygienic standards for passengers who utilise the bedding services provided in the AC coaches.

The explanation regarding the use of two bedsheets seeks to guide passengers in utilising the bedding correctly, thereby enhancing their overall travelling experience by promoting hygiene during their journey.

The clarification from the Railway Minister came in response to queries raised by Rajya Sabha MP Chandrakant Damodar Handore about the cleanliness practices related to railway linen.
