Indian High Commission Singapore Holds Outreach Event for 200 Indian Women, Offers Health Screenings and Financial Safety Advice

The CSR Journal Magazine

The Indian High Commission in Singapore recently organised an outreach event aimed at supporting Indian women working in the city-state. Around 200 women participated in this initiative, which falls under the government’s ‘One Stop Centre’ programme designed for women abroad. The gathering took place on Sunday and provided a platform for these women to receive health screenings and consultations related to financial transactions.

High Commissioner Shilpak Ambule addressed the attendees, encouraging them to seek assistance directly from the Commission when facing any challenges during their stay in Singapore. He emphasised the importance of open communication with officials and assured the participants of the support available to them.

Health Screenings and Financial Safety

The health screenings were conducted to encourage the women, many of whom serve as domestic helpers and caregivers, to prioritise their health while navigating Singapore’s demanding environment. The High Commission indicated that regular check-ups are essential for maintaining well-being and managing health concerns effectively.

In addition to health support, High Commissioner Ambule stressed the necessity of conducting financial transactions through secure banking channels. He warned the women to remain vigilant against the increasing incidence of financial scams, advising them on the importance of safety in financial dealings.

The outreach event aimed not only to provide immediate support but also to equip participants with information that would help them navigate life’s challenges more effectively during their time abroad.

Community Support and Cultural Initiatives

High Commissioner Ambule acknowledged the significant role played by non-governmental organisations within the Indian community of Singapore in supporting the ‘One Stop Centre’ initiative. Among these organisations is the Maharashtra Mandal Singapore, established in 1994. This group aims to promote the art, culture, traditions, and language of the Marathi community in Singapore.

The Maharashtra Mandal collaborates closely with the Indian High Commission on various cultural and community initiatives. Their activities include the ‘One District One Product’ programme and showcasing Indian talents through cultural events and film festivals. This ongoing partnership aims to strengthen cultural ties and provide support to the Indian diaspora.

During the event, members of the youth wing of the Maharashtra Mandal presented cultural performances to further engage the attendees. This blending of outreach, health support, and cultural enrichment created a comprehensive platform for Indian women in Singapore, fostering a sense of community and shared identity.
