Indian Army Celebrates World Youth Skills Day with Marathon and Skill Development Programme in Menchuka

The Indian Army marked World Youth Skills Day on July 17, by organising a marathon and a skill development programme in Menchuka, Arunachal Pradesh. This initiative was led by the Spearhead Division of Spearcorps in collaboration with the Youth Club of Menchuka. The events were designed to bolster the community’s commitment to empowering young individuals through fitness and education.

Participation and Distinguished Guests

The marathon attracted nearly 200 participants, including boys, girls, and local residents, alongside soldiers from the Indian Army. Additional Deputy Commissioner of Menchuka, Smt Tana Yaho, was present, along with Army officers and two renowned sporting figures from Arunachal Pradesh. Participating as Race Ambassadors, Jyoti Mane, who is noted for being the first athlete from the State to secure a medal at the National Games, and Tajum Dere, the inaugural cyclist from Arunachal Pradesh to qualify for the National Games 2025, inspired participants with their achievements.

Participants were encouraged to embody the qualities of discipline, perseverance, and dedication, as demonstrated by the Race Ambassadors. This motivation served as a crucial element in instilling a sense of ambition among the youth.

To recognise their athletic prowess, cash prizes of Rs 15,000, Rs 10,000, and Rs 5,000 were awarded to the top three finishers in both the boys’ and girls’ categories. This financial incentive aims to acknowledge sporting excellence and stimulate increased participation in athletic activities.

Focus on Skill Development and Lifelong Learning

Following the marathon, an engaging motivational lecture was conducted, emphasising the significance of skill development and vocational training. The session highlighted the importance of innovation and lifelong learning while encouraging attendees to recognise their strengths and acquire practical skills. The speakers discussed emerging career opportunities and provided insights into government initiatives that promote employability and entrepreneurship.

The event resonated with the participants, who were advised on the advantages of becoming self-reliant and the steps they could take to enhance their career prospects. This emphasis on skill acquisition was intended to create awareness about available resources and opportunities.

According to the Public Relations Officer of Defence, this initiative exemplified the collaboration between military and civil society, reinforcing the idea of Seema Jan Kalyan. It served to unite the Indian Army, civil administration, the Youth Club, and the local community on a shared platform aimed at uplifting the youth.

Encouraging Healthy Lifestyles and Nation-Building

The combination of sports and awareness regarding skill development served to motivate the youth of this border region. The organisers expressed hope that such initiatives would lead to healthier lifestyles while also preparing young individuals for future challenges.
