During the 80th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) on Saturday, Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif praised US President Donald Trump for his efforts to avert a war in South Asia, he raised the issue of Kashmir in his address and claimed that 7 Indian jets were damaged during the four-day conflict in May between India and Pakistan.
What did Petal Gahlot say?
After the Pakistani Prime Minister’s address, India used its right to reply and addressed Sharif’s speech and accused him of distorting facts and glorifying terrorism.
Petal Gahlot, the First Secretary in India’s Permanent Mission to the UN, said, “Mr President, this assembly witnessed absurd theatrics in the morning from the Prime Minister of Pakistan, who once again glorified terrorism that is so central to their foreign policy. However, no degree of drama and no level of lies can conceal the facts.”
Gahlot accused Pakistan of shielding the act of terrorism. She said on April 25, 2025, at the UN Security Council, Pakistan had shielded the ‘The Resistance Front’ – a Pakistani-sponsored terror outfit. They covered them and said they weren’t responsible for the ‘barbaric massacre of tourists in the Indian Union territory of Jammu and Kashmir’.
What is the real face of Pakistan?
Petal Gahlot in her address also spoke of the double standards of Pakistan. On one hand, they claim to have no relationship with terrorists, on the other hand many pictures of Pakistani military and civilian officials were seen glorifying and paying homage to terrorists who were killed in attacks.
Gahlot pulled out the bizarre account of conflict by the Pak Prime Minister in his speech, and said Pakistan was threatening more attacks on India till May 9 and on May 10, they pleaded for a cessation.
Gahlot further said, “Mr President, a country long steeped in the tradition of deploying and exporting terrorism has no shame in advancing the most ludicrous narratives to that end. Let us recall that it sheltered Osama bin Laden for a decade, even while pretending to partner in the war against terrorism. Its ministers have just recently acknowledged that they have been operating terrorist camps for decades. It should come as no surprise that once again this duplicity continues, this time at the level of its Prime Minister.”
Why is Pakistan in all praises of Trump?
Like before, in today’s speech the Prime Minister of Pakistan has recognized President Trump for, as per him, an outstanding contribution to promote peace in this part of the world. While India has been stating that the understanding on cessation between the two Asian nations was reached by direct talks.
This act of praise for Trump started when Sharif last visited Washington DC on Thursday, along with Field Marshal Asim Munir. The duo met Trump in the White House. Post the meeting Sharif described Trump as a “man of peace” and lauded his “courageous and decisive” leadership.
What did Pak PM Sharif say about Kashmir?
During his speech, Sharif said that Pakistani people always stand by the people of Kashmir. He said, “Kashmir will gain its fundamental right to self-determination through an impartial plebiscite under the auspices of the United Nations.”
Pointing out externally sponsored terrorism, Sharif said his country has been facing terrorism in all its forms and manifestations. “Pakistan has been facing externally-sponsored terrorism, particularly from foreign-funded groups like Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan, Balochistan Liberation Army and its Majid Brigade.” He also added that there must be no hate speech, discrimination or violence against any person, or against any religion.
