The CSR Journal Magazine

Preparations for the wedding of Squadron Leader Anuj Vashisht in Gurugram were in full swing when a tragic call arrived on Friday afternoon, shattering the joyous atmosphere. An official from the Indian Air Force (IAF) informed the family that Vashisht had died in a Su-30 MKI crash that occurred in the Karbi Anglong district of Assam. In the wake of the news, several family members promptly traveled to Assam, as reported by Chandra Prakash, a relative of the family. Meanwhile, Vashisht’s mother remains unaware of the full extent of the grief, having been told only that her son sustained injuries from the crash.

Background of the Fallen Pilot

Friends and relatives gathered at Vashisht’s residence in Sector 22B of Gurugram following the tragic news. Anuj Vashisht was originally from Bhiwani district in Haryana and is survived by his father, Subedar (retired) Anand Prakash, mother Anita Devi, and a younger brother. According to a family friend, Vashisht completed his early education at Kendriya Vidyalaya in Sector 14, Gurugram, before joining the Indian Air Force. He was engaged to a fellow pilot, and the wedding was imminent.

The IAF confirmed on Friday the tragic deaths of Squadron Leader Vashisht and Flight Lieutenant Purvesh Duragkar. Their Su-30 MKI aircraft, which was conducting a training sortie, lost radar contact shortly after taking off from Jorhat airbase. The crash highlights the inherent risks associated with military aviation.
