The CSR Journal Magazine

Hyundai Motor India is preparing to launch the Bayon SUV on October 26, 2026, marking an expansion of its SUV lineup. The company has commenced bookings for the India-specific model, which can be made online or at authorised dealerships for an initial amount of Rs 11,000. Deliveries are anticipated to start during the festive season, aligning with consumer purchasing trends.

The Bayon is strategically positioned between Hyundai’s Venue and Creta models, targeting the mid-size SUV segment. It will compete against established rivals, including the Maruti Suzuki Victoris, offering consumers a new option in a crowded market.

Hyundai has not yet disclosed the pricing for the Bayon, but its competitive positioning, features, and engine options will likely play a significant role in attracting potential buyers.

Design and Interior Features

The Bayon showcases Hyundai’s latest design language, featuring a layered front fascia and a split headlamp configuration. The vehicle is equipped with slim LED daytime running lights that enhance its modern aesthetic, while the main headlamp units are integrated lower in the bumper. The front design is complemented by contrasting black and silver cladding.

From the side, the Bayon presents pronounced wheel arches and sharp character lines, along with petal-style alloy wheels. The blacked-out pillars create a floating-roof effect, while traditional pull-type door handles maintain a familiar look. At the rear, slim tail-lamp elements are connected by a black trim section, and the prominent Bayon lettering on the tailgate adds to its visual appeal.

The interior features a curved panoramic dashboard layout, incorporating two 12.3-inch displays—one for the instrument cluster and another for the infotainment system. Notably, the SUV includes Hyundai’s Connected Car Navigation Cockpit (ccNC), powered by NVIDIA, offering online navigation and personalised controls.

Engine Specifications and Safety Features

The Bayon will be equipped with a 1.5-litre, four-cylinder, naturally aspirated MPi petrol engine, generating 115 bhp and 144 Nm of torque. Buyers will have the option of a six-speed manual transmission or Hyundai’s Intelligent Variable Transmission (iVT), which is a continuously variable transmission (CVT). The iVT features a Dash Boost Mode for enhanced responsiveness during overtaking.

Hyundai has prioritised safety in the Bayon, which is built on the Global K Enhanced Platform. The SUV will offer over 80 advanced safety features, with more than 35 available as standard across all variants. Key safety equipment includes six airbags, electronic stability control, and Hyundai SmartSense Level 2 Pro Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS).

The ADAS suite comprises various functions supported by multiple radars and parking sensors, including Forward Collision Warning and Blind-spot Collision Warning. The vehicle also features a Surround View Monitor and parking assistance technologies, enhancing driver confidence in various situations.

Technological Innovations and Connectivity

Among the standout features of the Bayon is Hyundai’s first-ever Generative AI Voice Assistant, which utilises advanced voice AI technology. This system is designed to respond to conversational requests, providing information on weather, travel itineraries, and nearby attractions.

The Bayon will also include Hyundai Bluelink, offering over 70 connected functions that cover remote vehicle controls and location-based services. Over-the-air updates will support software enhancements for up to 19 vehicle controllers, ensuring that the Bayon remains current without requiring frequent dealership visits.

Multilingual support is another key feature, with the infotainment and instrument cluster interfaces accommodating ten regional languages and two international languages. More than 500 embedded voice commands are available in various languages, allowing users to access functions without needing an internet connection.
