Himachal Pradesh has announced a significant initiative to involve up to one lakh young individuals in the ‘Mera Yuva Bharat Viksit Bharat Young Leaders Dialogue’. This programme aims to send a large group of youth from the state to a national-level event in New Delhi scheduled for January 2027. Naveen Tanwar, the Special Secretary for Youth, Sports and Services in Himachal Pradesh, described this effort as a platform to empower young residents aged 15 to 29 to present their talents and innovative ideas.

The focus of the initiative is to allow India’s youth to showcase their interests and creativity, culminating in a presentation to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The government’s intent is to facilitate recognition for these individuals, providing them a mechanism to voice their perspectives on national issues. Such an opportunity is expected to encourage young people to engage meaningfully with the country’s developmental narrative.

Registration for the programme can be done via the MY Bharat portal and app, and is open to anyone up to the age of 29, even if they are not currently enrolled in educational institutions. Tanwar emphasised that outreach efforts are underway in schools and colleges, but participation is not limited to students.

Components of the Initiative

The initiative will feature multiple tracks including a quiz competition, essay writing, presentations, folk dance, and street plays, alongside activities centred around technology and entrepreneurship. Young participants will have opportunities such as the Design for Bharat programme, hackathons, and an Entrepreneurship Challenge to showcase their skills and ideas.

A component called Youth Parliament is planned to enable young individuals to express their views on significant national topics. Tanwar indicated a substantial increase in participation, aiming for one crore young people at the national level, compared to 50 lakh who took part in the previous edition.

Dhruv Dogra, the State Director of Mera Yuva Bharat in Himachal Pradesh, highlighted the importance of connecting youth with the Government’s vision of a ‘Viksit Bharat’ by 2047. The initiative will particularly focus on themes such as climate change and sustainable development, given Himachal Pradesh’s unique geographical challenges.

Focus on Environmental Issues and Community Engagement

Dogra remarked that the competitions will emphasise sustainable development and climate change, areas critical to the mountainous state. He noted that selected participants will have a chance to present their ideas in New Delhi before national leaders, culminating in an audience with the Prime Minister on January 12, 2027.

The programme is also set to include a ‘Nasha Mukt Yuva for Viksit Bharat’ theme as part of the street-play competition, aiming to foster awareness about substance abuse and its repercussions. This element is part of a two-year campaign to educate youth on remaining drug-free.

Efforts are being made to ensure inclusion from rural and remote areas. Youth clubs are being integrated into the programme through collaboration with the Panchayati Raj Department. Dogra stated that it is crucial for young people from regions like Lahaul-Spiti and Kinnaur to also partake in this initiative, thus broadening the representation in the national contingent.

Initially, the target for participation was set at 50,000, but is now ambitiously raised to one lakh. Currently, around 16,000 registrations and quiz attempts have been recorded. The district-level competitions will conclude by November, with state-level events scheduled for December, and are anticipated to attract the Governor’s presence. The final national event will occur in New Delhi from January 10 to 12, 2027.
