Nestlé India has maintained that its products comply fully with all applicable food safety regulations following concerns raised by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) over certain infant nutrition products.

The company specifically referred to NAN EXCELLA PRO and LACTOGEN PRO, stating that both products, along with their respective labels, had received approval from an expert committee of the FSSAI. Nestlé India said the approval process covered the products and the information displayed on their labels.

Company Submits Detailed Response To FSSAI

Responding to the notice issued by the food safety regulator, Nestlé India said it had provided the authorities with a detailed explanation concerning statements appearing on the product labels.

The company said the claims and statements under scrutiny were factual in nature and supported by scientific literature. It reiterated that the information presented on the labels was based on supporting scientific material and maintained that the products had been developed and labelled in accordance with applicable requirements.

Nestlé India’s response comes amid regulatory scrutiny of promotional statements associated with its infant nutrition products. The company said it had addressed the concerns raised by the authorities and provided the relevant details as part of its response to the notice.

Nestlé Says It Will Continue To Cooperate With FSSAI

The company also reaffirmed its commitment to following all relevant regulatory requirements. Nestlé India said this included compliance with applicable norms as well as requirements governing declarations and information displayed on product labels.

“We confirm to adherence of all regulations including all norms and label declarations as per applicable laws,” the company said, reiterating its position that its products and labelling practices meet the requirements prescribed under the relevant regulatory framework.

Nestlé India added that it would continue engaging with the food safety regulator as the matter progresses. The company said it would work closely with FSSAI and support the authority’s efforts to promote consumer awareness.

“We will continue to work closely and support FSSAI in its efforts towards consumer awareness,” the company said.

Regulatory Review Continues

The company’s response comes as FSSAI examines compliance issues concerning infant nutrition products and related product claims. The regulator has sought clarification from Nestlé India as part of its proceedings.

Nestlé India’s position is that the products in question are compliant with applicable regulations and that their labels had previously been reviewed and approved by the FSSAI expert committee. The company has also emphasised that the statements appearing on the labels are factual and backed by scientific literature.

The regulatory process will determine how the concerns raised by FSSAI are addressed. For its part, Nestlé India has said it remains committed to complying with food safety requirements and engaging with the authorities while supporting initiatives aimed at improving consumer awareness.
