Four Killed in IED Explosion Near Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir

The CSR Journal Magazine

Four individuals from Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK) lost their lives due to an improvised explosive device (IED) explosion on the afternoon of Monday, October 12, 2026. The blast occurred near the Line of Control (LoC) in the Salotri area, close to Nangi Tekri in Poonch district. Reports indicate that the victims were engaged in laying water pipes on the Pakistani side of the LoC when the explosion took place.

According to sources, the deceased were identified as Faizan Sagheer, Ishtiaq, Waqas Sharief, and Asim Rafiq, all from Battal Mandhol village in PoJK and reportedly cousins. Initial investigations have not established any links between the victims and terrorist activities, raising questions about the circumstances leading to the blast.

The incident has prompted increased security measures on the Indian side of the LoC, as officials aim to prevent any potential security breaches following the explosion. The heightened alert reflects concerns over the implications of such incidents on regional stability.

Response from Security Forces

In response to the IED blast, security forces have intensified vigilance across the LoC. Officials have indicated that the alert status has been raised to ensure that any possible infiltration attempts are thwarted. The situation remains under close monitoring as the authorities assess the implications of the blast on security in the region.

Officials have not yet confirmed if the deceased individuals were involved in any activities that could have led to the blast. The investigation is ongoing, and further information is expected to be released as authorities gather more details about the incident.

In a related development, Indian Army troops detected two rusted landmines in the Basoni area of Mendhar sector on the same day. These landmines were discovered during construction activities at 8.25 am and 12.10 pm. The Army’s bomb disposal experts successfully defused both devices in controlled explosions, ensuring the safety of personnel and local residents.

Ongoing Landmine Threats

The presence of landmines along the LoC poses a significant risk, particularly in light of recent heavy rains that have reportedly washed away some of these devices, causing them to resurface in unexpected areas. Over the past week, the Indian Army has detected and defused approximately a dozen landmines as part of its ongoing anti-infiltration operations.

Landmines are strategically placed in forward areas along the LoC to deter infiltration, but their unearthing due to environmental factors raises concerns about civilian safety. The Indian Army continues to conduct regular inspections and maintenance to mitigate these risks and ensure the safety of both military personnel and local populations.

The situation along the LoC remains tense, with ongoing monitoring and security operations aimed at addressing both the immediate threats posed by incidents like the IED explosion and the longer-term challenges associated with landmines. Authorities are committed to maintaining security and stability in the region while responding to emerging threats effectively.
