Unable to Check PF Balance on WhatsApp? EPFO Users Report Technical Issues

The CSR Journal Magazine

The Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has introduced a WhatsApp service that allows subscribers to check their Employees’ Provident Fund (EPF) balance, view recent transactions, and download their PF passbook directly through a chatbot. This initiative aims to simplify the process of accessing essential EPFO services without the need to visit an office or navigate the official website.

Launched last week, the service is designed to enhance user convenience. Subscribers can now interact with the EPFO via WhatsApp, making it easier to obtain important information about their accounts. The service is intended to reduce the time and effort required to manage EPF-related tasks, thereby improving overall user experience.

According to EPFO, the WhatsApp service allows users to check their latest PF balance, view details of their five most recent transactions, and download their EPF passbook. Additionally, it offers personalised assistance for members participating in the Pradhan Mantri Viksit Bharat Rozgar Yojana (PMVBRY), further expanding the support available to subscribers.

How to Use the WhatsApp Service

Utilising the new WhatsApp service is straightforward for subscribers. EPFO has provided a dedicated WhatsApp number, +91 87964 41800, which users must save on their phones. To initiate the process, users should open WhatsApp and send a greeting, such as ‘Hi’, to the designated number. This will prompt a welcome message from the verified EPFO account, which will ask users to select their preferred language.

Once a language is selected, users can view a list of available services. By choosing the ‘Check Balance’ option, subscribers can request their latest PF balance. The service also includes options for accessing recent transactions and downloading the EPF passbook. EPFO has also made it easier to connect by providing a QR code that users can scan to start a conversation with the official WhatsApp account.

Despite the promising features of the service, users may encounter challenges when attempting to access their information. Reports indicate that the WhatsApp chatbot is currently experiencing technical difficulties, which can lead to failed requests or delayed responses.

Current Issues with the Service

Although the WhatsApp service is officially operational, many subscribers have reported difficulties in obtaining the information they seek. Initial interactions, such as receiving the welcome message and selecting a language, appear to function correctly. However, when users attempt to check their balance, they often receive an error message stating, “We couldn’t complete that. Something went wrong. Please try again after some time.”

Social media feedback suggests that numerous users have faced similar issues, with some waiting for nearly an hour for a response. Even after extended waiting periods, many have reported that their requests have not been successfully processed. This indicates that while the service is available, subscribers may need to exercise patience before it becomes fully functional.

The underlying cause of these issues remains unclear. It is uncertain whether the problems stem from high traffic following the launch or if they are indicative of a more significant technical malfunction. As of now, EPFO has not provided any clarification regarding the delays or the service’s operational challenges.
