A father and son from Ahmedabad are alleged to have fatally assaulted their 22-year-old daughter, Sofia, using a hammer. This tragic event was reportedly staged as a hit-and-run accident to mislead authorities. The incident occurred on the night of August 12, when Sofia was travelling on a motorcycle with her brother, Mohammed Habil. Both siblings were involved in what was initially presented as an accident but later uncovered as a murder.

According to police reports, Habil claimed that an unnamed vehicle struck them while they were riding. Following the incident, both Sofia and Habil sustained serious injuries, with Sofia succumbing to her injuries shortly thereafter. Upon receiving reports of the accident, traffic police arrived on the scene, prompting an initial investigation into the matter.

As the investigation unfolded, detectives noticed several inconsistencies in Habil’s narrative about the events leading up to the alleged accident. In particular, the location provided by Habil showed no evidence of an accident occurring. Furthermore, CCTV footage from the area revealed no other vehicles, raising suspicions regarding Habil’s account of what had transpired.

Police Investigation and Unraveling the Truth

Upon further questioning, Habil’s story started to crumble, leading investigators to uncover the sinister truth behind Sofia’s death. According to police sources, the motive for the murder stemmed from family concerns regarding Sofia’s social life. A video of her with another young man had gone viral, allegedly causing distress within the family. Her father and brother reportedly became increasingly worried about potential social embarrassment stemming from her perceived romantic relationships.

The police investigation revealed that Farooq, Sofia’s father, and Habil had plotted her murder approximately three months prior to the incident. They specifically selected August 12 as the execution date, timing their actions during a rainstorm to avoid detection. The route chosen for Sofia’s journey was carefully considered due to its limited CCTV coverage and dimly lit surroundings.

On the day of the incident, Farooq and Habil rode to Sofia’s workplace in Bopal, and during their return journey, they invited her onto the motorcycle. Habil had concealed a hammer, which he then used to strike Sofia on the head, rendering her unconscious. Subsequently, he further assaulted her with the hammer before disposing of her body by the roadside in an effort to stage the crime scene.

Aftermath of the Incident

Following Sofia’s death, both Farooq and Habil continued to ride with her body on the motorcycle, eventually placing her by the roadside to create the illusion of an accident. To enhance the deception, Habil intentionally injured himself and damaged the motorcycle. This elaborate staging was aimed at diverting police attention away from the possibility of murder.

Initially, traffic police treated the case as a standard road accident. However, about one month later, various anomalies in the case led to a deeper investigation, revealing the premeditated nature of the crime. This prompted the M Division police to register a murder case against Farooq and Habil, culminating in their arrest.

The disturbing nature of this case has drawn significant attention, highlighting underlying issues of familial control and societal pressures. The investigation continues as authorities work to piece together the circumstances that led to this shocking act of violence against Sofia.
