Filmmaker Farah Khan recently shared insights into her past experiences with actor Akshaye Khanna, particularly in relation to his recent acclaimed performance as gangster Rehman Dakait in the film Dhurandhar. During a conversation on a podcast hosted by Ranveer Allahbadia, she recounted her initial reluctance to work with him in the 1990s due to his on-set behavior. Farah described a phase when Khanna was grappling with hair loss, which she believed contributed to his irritability while filming. She stated, “In the ’90s, I did a couple of movies with Akshaye, and after that I was traumatised. Because he used to be a different person. Yes, introverted, but not a nice person on set.”

Changing Perceptions After Collaboration

Farah Khan noted that her perspective on Khanna shifted after they worked together on the film Dil Chahta Hai. She explained that she couldn’t decline the project as it was the directorial debut of her cousin, Farhan Akhtar. By this time, she observed that Khanna had become more comfortable with himself and his appearance. According to Farah, his demeanor transformed significantly after their collaboration. She remarked that in earlier projects, he often wore a cap for scenes involving water or rain, a habit that she pointed out in various songs, including those in Taal.

Admiring His Talent and Evolving Relationship

Farah praised Khanna’s talent as a performer, describing him as an exceptional dancer. She specifically highlighted his impressive performance in the song Koi Kahe Kehta Rahe, stating that he danced even better than his co-stars Aamir Khan and Saif Ali Khan. Reflecting on their relationship, Farah mentioned a warm rapport that has developed over the years. She shared that she reached out to Khanna after watching Dhurandhar and later visited his residence in Alibaug. She commented, “What I like about him is that he is not about the fluff; he is about the work. He enjoys acting.”

In the recently released film Dhurandhar, Akshaye Khanna has received significant recognition for his portrayal of the formidable Pakistani gangster Rehman Dakait. Audiences have lauded his performance, particularly noting his memorable dancing entry that became widely shared online. The spy thriller, released on December 5, centers on an Indian spy, played by actor Ranveer Singh, as he infiltrates terrorist networks based in Pakistan’s Lyari region. The cast also features notable actors such as Sanjay Dutt, Arjun Rampal, and R. Madhavan. A sequel titled Dhurandhar: The Revenge is slated for release in theaters on March 19.
