DMK’s Elangovan Slams AIADMK-BJP Alliance Over Jayalalithaa’s Legacy

The CSR Journal Magazine

Tiruchirappalli, Tamil Nadu: TKS Elangovan, spokesperson for the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), condemned the AIADMK’s alignment with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), describing it as contrary to the desires of the late leader Jayalalithaa. During a recent address, Elangovan criticized the AIADMK for forming ties with what he termed an “anti-Tamil” party, asserting that such a partnership is incompatible with the political heritage left by Jayalalithaa.

Allegations Against the BJP

Elangovan expressed strong concerns regarding the BJP’s impact on Tamil Nadu, suggesting that the party has proven detrimental to the region’s interests. “The people of Tamil Nadu will not accept the BJP, as they are anti-Tamil,” he stated, highlighting his belief that the BJP’s actions weaken regional parties. He warned that AIADMK may face repercussions similar to those experienced by Nitish Kumar’s party if they continue this alliance.

Political Atmosphere in Tamil Nadu Ahead of Elections

The remarks from Elangovan come during a period of heightened political discourse in Tamil Nadu, with the 2026 Assembly elections approaching. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin, who also serves as the president of the DMK, has been vocal in criticizing the policies of the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA). Addressing a conference in Siruganur, Stalin characterized the forthcoming elections as a crucial contest between the DMK and the central government’s agenda.

Stalin’s Criticism of NDA Policies

Stalin accused the NDA of implementing measures harmful to Tamil Nadu’s interests, asserting, “Those who oppose us are against Tamil Nadu. How can one support the NDA, which seeks to deny benefits to our state?” He emphasized that the upcoming elections represent a definitive choice for the people of Tamil Nadu, maintaining that there should be “no entry” for the BJP in state politics.

Concerns Over AIADMK’s Future

Elangovan’s comments aligned with Stalin’s, who alleged that the BJP is increasingly attempting to assert influence over the AIADMK. He claimed that the AIADMK has essentially “mortgaged” its identity to the BJP, potentially jeopardizing its own political future.

Upcoming Assembly Elections

With the Tamil Nadu Assembly, consisting of 234 members, set to hold elections in the first half of 2026, the ruling DMK-led Secular Progressive Alliance is focused on retaining its power. On the other hand, the BJP-AIADMK-led NDA aims to present a formidable challenge in the electoral landscape, marking what promises to be a significant electoral battle in the state.
