Agartala, Tripura: Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha emphasized that true progress in the state cannot be achieved without the meaningful development of the Janajati community. During a recent event, he highlighted the importance of enhancing the socio-economic conditions of Janajati villages to realize the vision of ‘Ek Tripura, Sreshtha Tripura.’ Dr. Saha made these remarks while attending the Mukhyamantri Janajati Vikas Yojana (MJVY) and financial assistance distribution programme held at Rabindra Bhavan.
Focus on Self-Reliance Among Janajatis
Dr. Saha pointed out that the development of Janajati individuals is a primary goal for the state government. He outlined that the Mukhyamantri Janajati Vikas Yojana, launched for the financial year 2023-24, is designed to foster self-reliance among Janajati families. This initiative encourages involvement in various livelihood activities, such as animal husbandry, to boost their income levels. He acknowledged the collaborative efforts between the central and state governments, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, to uplift the Janajati population.
Commitment to Cultural Preservation
The Chief Minister also stated that the government is committed to preserving and promoting the diverse culture, traditions, and heritage of the Janajati people. Dr. Saha reflected on the historical context faced by the people of Tripura and reiterated that the current government prioritizes action alongside words in addressing developmental challenges.
Financial Assistance for Janajati Families
As part of the Mukhyamantri Janajati Vikas Yojana, a one-time financial aid of ₹25,000 is being provided to every eligible Janajati family. To date, 9,779 beneficiaries have received this support. Furthermore, he mentioned that the government is implementing a broad range of development programs that aim to improve living standards and enhance the dignity of the Janajati community.
Investment in Janajati Development
Dr. Saha noted that a considerable portion of the development budget from both the state and central governments is earmarked for the advancement of Janajati areas. This investment highlights the administration’s commitment to addressing the needs of this vital segment of society.

The event was also attended by notable officials, including Finance Minister Pranajit Singha Roy, Tribal Welfare Minister Bikasi Debbarma, and Secretary of the Tribal Welfare Department Dr. K. Sasikumar, among others. Their presence underscored the collaborative effort towards the development initiatives targeting the Janajati communities of Tripura.
