Delhi Traffic Police Issues Advisory Ahead Of BRICS Summit 2026 Motor Carcade Rehearsal

The CSR Journal Magazine

The Delhi Traffic Police has released a comprehensive traffic advisory in anticipation of the motor carcade rehearsal for the BRICS Summit 2026, scheduled to run from September 11 to 13. This rehearsal is planned for September 8, 2026, from 7:45 pm to 10 pm, during which significant traffic diversions will be enforced across the national capital.

The police have identified twenty-two diversion points affecting traffic flow along over thirty-five key roads in the city. The areas around Bharat Mandapam and Pragati Maidan, the designated venues for the summit, will experience heightened restrictions, compelling commuters to re-evaluate their travel plans.

Notably, the traffic restrictions are expected to impact major thoroughfares, warranting adjustments for those commuting during the rehearsal. The Delhi Traffic Police recommends that affected individuals plan their journeys ahead of time and allocate additional travel time to accommodate these changes.

Recommended Travel Adjustments

Commuters are encouraged to utilise public transport options, particularly the Metro, during the rehearsal timeframe. The police have emphasised that emergency and essential-service vehicles will receive priority access on the affected routes. The advisory also includes specifics on various roads that will see alterations, which include Sardar Patel Marg, Mother Teresa Crescent, and Janpath, among others.

In addition, the traffic notice outlines alternate routes for convenient access to the New Delhi, Old Delhi, and Hazrat Nizamuddin railway stations, as well as local airports. Passengers travelling to these locations are advised to set off earlier than usual, ensuring extra time to account for potential delays.

During the VVIP movement, buses may face further diversions, although the Metro services are planned to continue operating without interruptions. Taxis and auto-rickshaws will be allowed to navigate through the affected zones, but parking will be restricted to designated areas only.

Potential Impact on Commuters

The Delhi Traffic Police has issued a strong recommendation for individuals heading to airports and railway stations to depart well in advance of their scheduled travel times. The advisory underscores the importance of being prepared for potential traffic disruptions while emphasising the need for patience during what is expected to be a busy period.

Prior to this advisory, the police had warned that the movement of international dignitaries attending the BRICS Summit might lead to temporary traffic regulations. This consideration underlines the significance of the summit and the enhanced security measures that will be in effect during this timeframe.

With a multitude of events scheduled and the presence of high-profile visitors, the Delhi Traffic Police urges all commuters to remain vigilant and adhere to the prescribed travel guidelines. They have also reiterated that updates regarding traffic conditions will be made available to facilitate smoother travel during the summit period.
