Delhi Police Arrest Two for Cheating Job Seekers by Posing as Recruiters from Indigo

The CSR Journal Magazine

Delhi Police have arrested two members of a cyber fraud gang who were posing as Indigo Airlines recruiters and duping job seekers of money. The case surfaced after a victim, Rohit Yadav, reported losing over Rs. 24,000 in the name of a job offer with the airline.

How the Fraud Took Place

According to the police, the incident began when Rohit Yadav came across a job advertisement claiming to be from Indigo Airlines on his Facebook account. Trusting the ad, he contacted the number mentioned and was connected to a man who introduced himself as Rohit Sharma. The caller convinced Rohit that to secure the job, he must make small deposits initially, which would later be adjusted with his first salary.

The complainant was first asked to pay Rs. 350 as a form fee via UPI on July 30. The following day, he was made to transfer Rs. 3,250 for uniform charges. After this, he was sent a fake gate pass and a bond agreement through WhatsApp, bearing the Indigo Airlines logo to make it look genuine.

Soon after, the fraudster demanded an additional Rs. 15,500 for an employment agreement and Rs. 5,000 for file charges. Believing the process to be official, Rohit complied with the demands. But once the payments were made, the culprits stopped replying, blocked his number and switched off their phones. Realising he had fallen into a trap, he filed an online complaint on the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal (NCRP).

Police Investigation and Arrests

The police analysed the trail of money and discovered that the cheated funds had been credited to a State Bank of India account in the name of Azad Khan, a resident of Faridabad. The technical details of the suspicious mobile number used in the transaction revealed that it was registered under the name of Ajay from Jeevan Nagar Part-II, also in Faridabad.

Following the leads, a raid was carried out where Azad Khan was first arrested near his home in Gochi, Sector-55, Faridabad. Later, based on his disclosure, another suspect Ajay was apprehended at his residence the same day.

During interrogation, both suspects allegedly confessed to running the fraud scheme by luring job seekers with false promises of employment at Indigo Airlines. They admitted to being close friends who hatched the plan to make quick money. A mobile phone and SIM card were seized from Ajay, which contained several fake documents and appointment letters carrying Indigo’s name and logo. These included communications addressed to the complainant Rohit Yadav.

Further Probe Underway

The police have confirmed that both accused were arrested under charges of cheating and forgery. The mobile devices and documents recovered will be sent for forensic examination to gather more evidence. Investigators are also trying to find whether the two were connected to a larger network or had duped more job seekers.

Officials have urged people to remain alert against such online job scams. They advised verifying any job-related communication directly with the company before transferring money. The case highlights how cyber fraud gangs increasingly exploit social media platforms and digital payment systems to target unsuspecting youth desperate for employment.
