Delhi has reported a total of 121 new dengue cases in September, bringing the city’s cumulative figure to 432 cases for the year. This recent data, released by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), indicates that the number of cases in September alone constitutes over a quarter of the total cases reported this financial year. The monthly count has surpassed previous figures, marking it as the highest recorded so far in 2026.

Dengue and Malaria Statistics for 2026

Aside from dengue, malaria cases have also surged during this period, with the MCD stating that 183 malaria infections have been documented this year. Notably, out of this total, 64 cases were reported in September, marking the highest monthly occurrence in the current year. Despite this upward trend in malaria cases, there have been no reported fatalities attributed to malaria in Delhi in 2026.

The MCD’s weekly vector-borne disease report, which was updated until September 12, indicates that the capital saw the emergence of 71 new dengue cases in just the past week. Geographically, West Delhi has been affected the most, reporting 57 cases, followed by the Central zone with 54 cases and Shahdara North recording 50 cases. These statistics underscore the regional disparities in the spread of the disease within the city.

In total, the city has recorded 24 instances of chikungunya this year, a decrease from the 46 reported in the same timeframe last year. Thus far in September, only two cases of chikungunya have been reported, highlighting a contrasting trend against the rising dengue and malaria infections.

MCD’s Intensified Mosquito Control Measures

As vector-borne diseases continue to rise, the MCD has escalated its mosquito-control efforts. According to the data, MCD teams have inspected over 2.79 crore households in an effort to identify and eliminate mosquito breeding sites. Their inspections revealed the presence of active mosquito larvae in approximately 1.47 lakh homes across the city, indicating a significant public health challenge.

To combat these breeding conditions, the civic body has issued more than 1.10 lakh legal notices to property owners failing to maintain appropriate conditions that could facilitate mosquito breeding. Furthermore, the MCD has initiated 11,943 legal actions targeting non-compliance, and has collected Rs 15.59 lakh in penalties from those who have violated established health regulations. These measures are part of the MCD’s broader strategy to address public health concerns related to vector-borne diseases.

In addition to these actions, the MCD has implemented anti-larval measures in over 13 lakh houses throughout the year. This multi-faceted approach reflects the organisation’s commitment to mitigating the impact of mosquito-borne diseases in the capital, as the health of the city’s residents remains a top priority amidst rising cases.
