Delhi Jal Board Announces Water Supply Disruption in Several Localities

The CSR Journal Magazine

Residents in various parts of Delhi are set to experience a disruption in water supply as the Delhi Jal Board (DJB) undertakes pipeline interconnection activities. This work is specifically related to a new 1,500 mm mild steel water pipeline located near the Taimoor Nagar drain in Khizrabad village. The DJB has stated that the maintenance is being executed under the directives of the Delhi High Court with the intention of enhancing the long-term efficiency and reliability of the city’s water supply system.

Individuals residing in the areas that will be affected have been advised to store a sufficient amount of water in advance. They are encouraged to use the stored water judiciously during the impending disruption to mitigate any inconveniences.

Reasons Behind the Water Supply Disruption

The water supply issues are attributed to the ongoing interconnection of a new pipeline aimed at fortifying Delhi’s water distribution framework. The construction is part of a larger initiative to modernise and maintain the city’s water network, ensuring its dependability for residents in the future. The DJB has reiterated that these improvements are essential for ongoing service quality.

The specific interconnection work involves linking the newly installed pipeline to the existing infrastructure. This will facilitate more effective distribution of water across the various localities affected. Residents should anticipate a temporary suspension or reduction in water pressure during this time.

Schedule of Water Supply Disruption

According to the advisory issued by the DJB, the water supply is expected to be disrupted during the following times: the evening of July 6 and in the morning on July 7. During this period, residents may either face a complete lack of water supply or experience low water pressure in their households.

The affected localities include a range of well-known areas, such as Golf Links, Bharti Nagar, Lodhi Estate, Khan Market, and Prithviraj Road. Other impacted areas include Shahjahan Road, the Delhi High Court vicinity, Pandara Road, Jor Bagh, Janpath, Kidwai Nagar, and the President’s Estate, along with the Safdarjung Airport area.

Residents are expected to make necessary arrangements for these disruptions, given the extensive range of areas impacted by the maintenance work. The DJB has made provisions to ensure disruptions will be kept to a minimum, preparing for a swift restoration of regular water supply once the work is concluded.

Recommendations for Residents

In anticipation of the scheduled disruptions, the Delhi Jal Board recommends that residents take proactive measures. They are urged to store enough water prior to the commencement of the disruption in order to adequately meet their daily needs.

Once the disruption begins, residents are advised to use the stored water with care until the supply is restored. Understanding that either low water pressure or a complete suspension of service may occur, it is advisable for households to prepare accordingly. Information regarding the resumption of normal supply will be communicated as the work progresses.

While the inconveniences are acknowledged, residents are encouraged to remain patient during this short-term disruption given the long-term benefits anticipated from the improvement and strengthening of the water supply network in Delhi.
