Delhi High Court to Hear Plea Against Demolition in Uttam Nagar Murder Case

The CSR Journal Magazine

The mother of an accused in the Uttam Nagar murder incident has filed a petition with the Delhi High Court, contesting the alleged demolition of her residence. She has raised concerns that municipal authorities may pursue similar actions against their property. The plea was presented to a bench led by the Chief Justice, who learned that the residence of a co-accused had already been torn down.

The petitioner expressed significant concern regarding potential government action that could target their house as well. Following the submission, the court acknowledged the urgency of the matter and has indicated that it will likely be addressed later today after the lunch break.

Background of the Case

This legal action occurs amid a demolition campaign conducted by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi, which is associated with the violent altercation during the Holi festival that resulted in the death of a 26-year-old man. Four days following the fatal incident, Tarun Kumar was reportedly killed during the clash on Holi in Uttam Nagar, civic authorities initiated the demolition of parts of a residence connected to one of the primary suspects.

As per information from law enforcement, the portions that were demolished were deemed “encroached” parts of a three-storey building alongside other allegedly illegal structures in the area. Official sources confirmed that the property belonged to Umardeen, aged 49, and his son Muzaffar, aged 25, both of whom are among the accused in the ongoing investigation.

Aim of the Petition

The petition submitted to the High Court is seeking a safeguard against any forthcoming demolition actions that could affect the petitioner’s property. The hearing is anticipated to take place later today. In conjunction with these developments, the Delhi Police announced the arrest of seven additional suspects and the apprehension of one minor associated with the Uttam Nagar case, reflecting ongoing efforts to address the incident and its aftermath.

The events leading to these legal proceedings trace back to March 4, the date of Holi, when a dispute reportedly began over a balloon. The situation quickly spiraled into a violent confrontation that has since garnered significant attention from both authorities and the public.
