GATE 2027 Registration Starts Today; September 27 Deadline Fixed for Regular Fees

The registration process for the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2027 has commenced on September 2, 2026. IIT Madras is the organising institute for the examination. Candidates interested in participating can utilise the GATE Online Application Processing System (GOAPS), available on the official GATE 2027 website. The standard registration period will close on September 27, 2026, allowing applications at no extra cost. However, for those who miss this deadline, applications with an additional late fee will be accepted until October 5, 2026.

Essential dates for prospective GATE 2027 candidates include the registration start date of September 2, the regular registration deadline on September 27, and the extended registration deadline on October 5. Additionally, candidates should note that the application rectification period is from October 14 to 21, 2026. The city allotment notification will be released on January 4, 2027, and the GATE examination will take place on February 6, 7, 13, 14, 20, and 21, 2027. The results are expected to be announced on March 19, 2027. Details regarding the admit card download have yet to be disclosed by IIT Madras.

Eligibility Criteria for GATE 2027

GATE 2027 is intended for eligible undergraduate students and graduates from various fields, including engineering, technology, architecture, science, commerce, arts, and humanities. There are no restrictions based on age, allowing individuals to attempt the examination multiple times. However, Indian candidates are required to register via a verified DigiLocker account. It is advisable that candidates create or update their DigiLocker accounts prior to commencing the application process.

This year’s examination will be conducted as a computer-based test (CBT) and will feature thirty different test papers. Candidates have the option to choose one or two papers from the allowed combinations upon registration. Additionally, a new test paper in Robotics and Automation (RA) has been introduced, alongside updates to the syllabi of some existing papers.

Application Process and Fees Structure

The application fee for GATE 2027 varies by category. Female applicants and those belonging to the SC, ST, and PwD categories are required to pay an application fee of Rs 1,000. For all other candidates, the fee is Rs 2,000. Payments can be made through various online methods including UPI, net banking, and credit or debit cards.

To complete the application process, candidates must first register using a valid email address and mobile number to receive their Enrolment ID. They can then log in to the GOAPS portal to fill out the application form. Candidates are required to enter personal and academic details, upload necessary documents including a photograph and signature, select the appropriate GATE paper, and pay the applicable fee. After submission, candidates should download a PDF copy of their application form for their records.
