Delhi Court Issues Notice on Manish Sharma’s Anticipatory Bail Plea in AI Summit Case

The CSR Journal Magazine

The Patiala House Court in New Delhi has issued a notice to the Delhi police regarding the anticipatory bail application filed by Manish Sharma, the National Incharge of the Indian Youth Congress. The plea concerns the protests that occurred during the AI Summit. Additional Sessions Judge Prashant Sharma presided over the case and directed the police to respond. However, the court denied immediate interim protection from coercive measures without first hearing from the police. The matter has been scheduled for further hearing on Monday.

Legal Representation and Previous Developments

Manish Sharma is represented by senior advocate Sanjoy Ghosh, alongside advocates Roopesh Singh Bhadauria and Chitwan Godara. In court, it was highlighted that nine other individuals involved in the protest had already been granted bail. The President of the Indian Youth Congress, Udai Bhanu Chib, has also received bail in connection with this case. Ghosh informed the court that interim anticipatory bail was previously granted to another accused, Nigam Bhandari, asserting that there was no incriminating evidence against Sharma.

Police Opposition and Investigation Status

The Delhi police have opposed the bail pleas of several individuals, asserting that Manish Sharma and a co-accused, Vishwajeet, are allegedly evading arrest. The police have issued a notice to Sharma to appear for questioning related to the investigation. This ongoing case has raised concerns about the protests associated with the AI Summit and the actions taken by the police to address these events.

Recent Court Decision on Other Accused

In a separate but related development, the Patiala House Court ordered the release of Siddharth Avdhoot, another accused in the AI Summit protest case. Avdhoot had been granted bail on March 5 after his arrest at a resort in Shimla, Himachal Pradesh. The Delhi police claim that he played a significant role in the organization of the protests, specifically in designing and printing T-shirts that were worn by the protesters during the summit.
