A woman in Noida was left feeling uncomfortable after a Rapido delivery rider sent a series of personal messages following a parcel delivery. The unsolicited communication included a declaration of love, which raised concerns about harassment within the service. A woman shared a screenshot of the interaction on LinkedIn, highlighting the unprofessional nature of the contact.

The rider initiated the conversation with, “Hello, kesi ho aap? (Hello, how are you?)”, before abruptly stating, “I love you.” She promptly asked him to refrain from further communication and warned that she would report him to the authorities.

Rather than retracting his statements, the rider reportedly responded with a challenge, saying, “Ha kardo. Jao. Rapido me kar do (Yes, go ahead. Make the complaint. Go and complain to Rapido).” This indifference to her concerns raised further alarms for her.

Responses and Customer Safety Concerns

Following the incident, she questioned the apparent lack of accountability for the delivery rider. She expressed her frustration in her post, wondering why he seemed confident in the face of a potential complaint. This incident prompted her to reflect on the broader challenges faced by women in India regarding safety and respect in everyday interactions.

In her LinkedIn post, she remarked on the difficulties women face in the country, stating that booking a simple delivery should not come with the fear of harassment. Furthermore, she raised inquiries about the hiring practices and monitoring procedures adopted by Rapido when it comes to their delivery personnel, questioning the company’s commitment to safeguarding customers.

Rapido responded to her concerns by apologising for the incident and asserting that they take such matters very seriously. The company noted that customer safety, dignity, and respect are among their primary priorities in their operations.

Public Reaction and Ongoing Discussion

The incident and Rapido’s response sparked a broader discussion on LinkedIn, where numerous users began sharing their personal experiences with app-based services. Many comments reflected a sentiment of dissatisfaction with the generic nature of the company’s apology, with users calling for more rigorous actions when inappropriate behaviour is reported.

Commenters articulated a desire for tangible consequences for delivery personnel who engage in harassment or misconduct. Despite Rapido’s assurances of prioritising safety, the dialogue continued, with individuals questioning the efficacy of the company’s measures and what concrete changes could be implemented to prevent similar incidents in the future.

This particular incident has illuminated the larger issue of safety and accountability in service industries, where individuals interact frequently. The need for companies to ensure a secure environment for all customers remains an urgent concern and calls for continual assessment of operational practices.
