Manipur Music Teacher Dies Following Attack Over Noise Dispute

The CSR Journal Magazine

A 54-year-old well-known music teacher from Manipur, Chongtham Vikram Singh, reportedly died after being assaulted by a group of individuals in Kilokari village, located near Ashram in southeast Delhi. The incident occurred following a disagreement regarding noise disturbances allegedly caused by delivery personnel and dhaba staff operating near Singh’s residence.

Police reported that the confrontation took place when Singh attempted to address these complaints. Singh allegedly confronted the workers about their shouting and disruptive behaviour, which he claimed was affecting his peace. In response to his objections, a group of men allegedly attacked him, delivering physical blows during the encounter. As a result of the assault, Singh sustained serious injuries.

Singh’s son, Yaiphaba, took him to Holy Family Hospital for medical attention. Unfortunately, despite efforts made by the hospital staff, Singh succumbed to his injuries later. The police received a call concerning the attack at Sunlight Colony Police Station at 8 am on September 7. They promptly arrived at the scene to investigate the matter further.

Arrests and Ongoing Investigations

Authorities have detained several suspects in connection with the incident, including a minor. Police officials are currently working to gather more information about the circumstances surrounding the assault and the eventual death of Singh. Initial investigations aim to ascertain both the motive and the events leading to the altercation.

According to Delhi Police, further legal action will be undertaken as the findings of the investigation develop. The department confirmed that they are committed to uncovering the truth behind the incident. Ongoing inquiries will set the groundwork for determining the appropriate legal responses to those involved.

Following Singh’s death, the community, including members of the Northeast student organisations and civil society groups, gathered at Sunlight Colony Police Station. They have expressed demands for thorough identification of all individuals responsible for the assault and for legal actions to be pursued against them.

Community Reaction and Concerns

The incident has sparked significant concern and anger within the Northeast community in Delhi, which has rallied for justice in the wake of Singh’s death. A swift inquiry has been requested by various student organisations, including the North East Students’ Society from Delhi University, who have condemned the violence that ensued. Their statements emphasise the need for an unbiased investigation into the matter.

While some community members have suggested that the attack may have been racially motivated, police representatives have stated that no definitive evidence supporting such claims has emerged thus far. The investigation remains ongoing, as authorities attempt to further understand the motive behind the assault.

Delhi Police maintain that necessary legal actions will proceed based on the conclusions drawn from their investigation. They assert that investigating the incident thoroughly is crucial to achieving accountability for the events that transpired, thus ensuring justice for the victim and his family.
