20-Year-Old Dalit Woman Gang-Raped, Fiancé Assaulted In Madhya Pradesh; 3 Arrested

The CSR Journal Magazine

In a shocking incident, a 20-year-old Dalit woman was allegedly gang-raped by four men in Madhya Pradesh’s Sidhi district. The incident occurred in a forested area near Churhat in Madhya Pradesh, police reported on Wednesday. According to reports, the woman had gone out with her fiancé on Tuesday evening. During this, the couple were ambushed by a group of 4 men.

Couple Attacked on Isolated Hilltop

According to Arvind Srivastava, Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP), the couple parked their motorcycle near the roadside and walked towards a nearby hill. There, four men allegedly spotted them, assaulted the woman’s fiancé, and chased him away. The woman was then reportedly raped by the group in turns.

Following the horrific incident, the woman managed to contact her partner. Together, they approached the Semaria police station to report the crime. Based on their complaint, a case was registered immediately. Both victims were sent for medical treatment at a local health centre.

Police Launch Manhunt, Register Case

Police have arrested three of the four accused, while efforts are ongoing to track down the fourth, who is currently absconding. Five police teams have been deployed for the manhunt.

The incident has triggered a political storm, with the opposition Congress party lashing out at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government over what it described as a deteriorating law and order situation in the state.

Opposition Slams BJP Over Law and Order

State Congress president Jitu Patwari condemned the crime, calling it a “stain on humanity” and pointing to alarming statistics. “In the last three years alone, 7,418 incidents of rape of Dalit and tribal women, 338 gang-rapes, and 558 murders have been registered in Madhya Pradesh. On average, seven Dalit or tribal daughters are becoming victims of this cruelty every day. These figures prove the failure of the BJP government,” the former minister added.

Patwari blamed government inaction for the rising crime graph and demanded urgent reforms and justice for the victims.
