The CSR Journal Magazine

New Delhi, India: PNB Housing Finance Limited, through its CSR arm Pehel Foundation, flagged off a Mobile Medical Unit (MMU) from Delhi, in association with Wockhardt Foundation. The Mobile Medical Unit was inaugurated by Ms. Bansuri Swaraj, Hon’ble Member of Parliament, Lok Sabha, New Delhi, and Mr. Ajai Kumar Shukla, Managing Director & CEO, PNB Housing Finance, at Ramjas Sports Complex in New Delhi. The initiative will improve access to primary healthcare for underserved urban communities.

As part of its Mobile Medical Unit programme, PNB Housing Finance aims to enhance access to affordable and timely healthcare for economically vulnerable urban communities, where treatment is often delayed due to distance, long waiting times, and loss of daily income. The Company aims to bridge this gap and offer a sustainable solution by bringing primary and preventive care directly to them.

Speaking on the occasion, Ms. Bansuri Swaraj, Hon’ble Member of Parliament, Lok Sabha, said, “Strengthening primary healthcare delivery is fundamental for improving overall community well-being. Mobile Medical Units play a crucial role in reaching populations that often remain outside the formal healthcare system. This initiative reflects the efforts of PNB Housing Finance to address systemic barriers that prevent underserved populations from engaging with the formal healthcare system.”

Mr. Ajai Kumar Shukla, Managing Director & CEO, PNB Housing Finance Limited, said, “Access to timely and affordable healthcare remains a critical challenge for many underserved communities. At PNB Housing Finance, our philosophy is driven by inclusive development and holistic well-being, reflecting the importance of access to basic healthcare services in areas where it is most required. As part of our association with Wockhardt Foundation, we are proud to launch the third phase of our Mobile Medical Unit initiative, which will help strengthen last-mile healthcare delivery in the national capital city. Through this, we are creating a foundation for healthier communities and contributing to the long-term resilience of urban India.”

The Mobile Medical Unit is staffed with a qualified MBBS doctor, a pharmacist, and a trained driver, providing routine consultations, treatment for common ailments, management of chronic conditions, and referrals for advanced care, while also promoting health education, hygiene awareness, and access to relevant government healthcare schemes.

Building on the impact of the earlier phases that reached over 1 lakh beneficiaries, particularly within the construction worker community, the third phase of the initiative is expected to reach 25,000 beneficiaries annually, along with catering to caregivers and families through awareness programs and preventive health measures. This reinforces PNB Housing Finance’s commitment to inclusive community development and sustainable urban progress, with a continued focus on equitable access to healthcare and long-term wellbeing.
