CSR News: Partnership with Tamil Nadu Government to Strengthen School Education

Chennai, Tamil Nadu: India Yamaha Motor Pvt. Ltd. has augmented its commitment to social responsibility by constructing a fully equipped 12 Classroom building for Government High School Thirukallimedu, Kancheepuram. Education continues to be the most important pillar for Yamaha’s CSR activities in India, the other 3 pillars being Environment, Healthcare, and Road Safety.

The newly constructed school is by far the largest school that Yamaha has constructed under its CSR Initiative. It comprises of 12 fully furnished classrooms located in a 2-story building with 6 classrooms on each floor. The facility also has a Kitchen Building, dedicated Restrooms and a modern computer lab. Further, the school has a 10KW Solar Power facility, which is more than enough to meet the normal requirements for the school. Rainwater harvesting structures and RCC Water Storage Sump have also been provided, and the entire school facility is secured by 550-m boundary walls.

It is pertinent to note that this is the 4th school building, which Yamaha has constructed through its CSR programme in the past 4 years in Kanchipuram & Tiruvannamalai districts in Tamil Nadu. Yamaha also had set up computer labs in 5 Government Schools in Kancheepuram district earlier during the year 2024.

The inaugural function was graced by Mr. C.V.M.P. Ezhilarasan, Member of Legislative Assembly, Kancheepuram; Ms. M. Mahalakshmi, Mayor, Kancheepuram City Municipal Corporation; Mr. R. Kumaragurunathan, Dy. Mayor, Kancheepuram City Municipal Corporation and other senior State Government officials. From Yamaha, the inauguration was attended by Mr. Itaru Otani, Chairman, Yamaha Motor India Group of Companies; Mr. Atsushi Nagashima, Director, Yamaha Motor India; and Mr. S. Kumar, Vice President, Yamaha Motor India. School students and parents, who joined on the day, were visibly thrilled at the robust infrastructure. Further, new school bags and stationery kits were also distributed by Yamaha to all the students.

India Yamaha Motor has partnered with Namma School Namma Ooru Palli (NSNOP) – an initiative established by the Government of Tamil Nadu to foster community engagement and support in strengthening basic education for Government Schools in the State.
