CM Yogi Adityanath Positions Uttar Pradesh for Japanese Investment

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has recently presented the state as an appealing destination for Japanese investments. He emphasised the robust manufacturing ecosystem, improved infrastructure, and skilled labour pool during his address at the UP-Japan Investment Meet. By inviting Japanese companies to consider Uttar Pradesh as their “second home”, Adityanath aims to strengthen economic ties between the two regions.

Commitments and Economic Landscape

During the investment meet, Adityanath disclosed that commitments worth Rs 2,000 crore were pledged, with expectations of creating substantial employment opportunities. Among the new announcements was a facility designed to produce 60,000 tractors annually, reinforcing the state’s agricultural machinery sector.

Adityanath provided insights into Uttar Pradesh’s economic standing, declaring it one of India’s top three states by GDP. The state boasts over 96 lakh micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), along with more than 22,000 startups. In addition, 36 sectoral policies are in place focusing on industries such as textiles, automobiles, electronics, and defence manufacturing.

Notably, Uttar Pradesh has emerged as a major player in mobile phone production, accounting for 55 per cent of the nation’s output. The chief minister also highlighted the state’s agricultural strengths, mentioning its contributions to 21 per cent of the country’s food grain production. With its diverse climatic zones, Uttar Pradesh provides a favourable environment for various industries.

Infrastructure Development and Future Projects

Adityanath underscored the development of multimodal logistics corridors and various infrastructure projects, including the Bundelkhand and Purvanchal Expressways. He noted that both expressways were completed ahead of schedule and under budget, a reflection of the state’s commitment to improving the ease of doing business.

Further advancements include the establishment of an electric vehicle (EV) bus manufacturing plant and a defence manufacturing hub, showcasing Uttar Pradesh’s ambition in emerging technologies and national security. The chief minister reported that the state is also working on semiconductor, data centre, and electronics manufacturing units to foster technological growth.

The establishment of two Hydrogen Centres of Excellence signifies Uttar Pradesh’s commitment to exploring sustainable energy solutions. Adityanath highlighted his vision for the state to become an attractive investment destination across various sectors, including renewable energy.

Cultural Collaboration and Work Ethics

Yogi Adityanath acknowledged the shared cultural heritage between India and Japan, particularly through Buddhism, which serves as a foundation for deeper collaboration. He described Japan as the “Land of the Rising Sun” and Uttar Pradesh as the land of opportunities and heritage.

Adityanath also expressed his aim to introduce the local youth to Japanese work ethics, citing the state’s large, skilled workforce as a significant asset. He reiterated the investment potential that Uttar Pradesh offers, including scale, skill, and market access, alongside a stable legal framework.

In closing, the chief minister invited Japanese companies to view Uttar Pradesh as a long-term partner, encouraging participation from organisations like the Japan External Trade Organisation (JETRO) to enhance investment possibilities in the state.
