CM Manik Saha Accuses INDIA Bloc of Targeting Constitutional Institutions

The CSR Journal Magazine

has accused the Congress-led INDIA bloc of consistently undermining constitutional institutions, including the Election Commission and the Supreme Court. This statement was made during a rally on Saturday, as reported by the Press Trust of India. Saha claimed that the opposition’s actions are aimed at creating confusion among the populace regarding these vital institutions.

During his address, Saha asserted that the nation is progressing under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He alleged that the Congress and its allies are not only attacking constitutional bodies but are also opposing the special intensive revision of electoral rolls, which he views as essential for maintaining electoral integrity.

Saha expressed his belief that the INDIA bloc is seeking alternative methods to gain power after failing in previous electoral contests. He suggested that their efforts to weaken constitutional institutions are intended to erode public trust in these bodies, thereby facilitating their political ambitions.

Support for Electoral Roll Revision

The Chief Minister defended the electoral roll revision process, stating that the Supreme Court has affirmed the Election Commission’s authority to conduct this exercise. He emphasised that the aim is to create error-free electoral rolls and ensure free and fair elections in the country.

Saha further claimed that the INDIA bloc is unwilling to accept the Supreme Court’s stance on the Special Intensive Revision (SIR). He warned that their agitation could lead to an anarchic situation similar to those seen in Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and Nepal, which he believes is untenable in India, the world’s largest democracy.

In his remarks, Saha reiterated the commitment of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to safeguarding democracy and the Constitution. He announced that the party would engage with citizens to highlight what he described as the detrimental role of the INDIA bloc in weakening the nation’s democratic fabric.

Criticism from BJP State President

BJP state president Abhishek Debroy also voiced criticism of the INDIA bloc, alleging that they are campaigning against the electoral roll revision. He noted that the SIR has been conducted ten times during previous Congress administrations to ensure the accuracy of electoral rolls. Debroy questioned the motives of the INDIA bloc, suggesting that their demand to halt the revision process is an attempt to mislead the public.

He accused them of wanting to retain the names of deceased and relocated voters on the electoral rolls for electoral advantage. He specifically targeted Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, stating that the INDIA bloc is unfairly criticising him for his efforts to maintain clean and accurate electoral rolls. Debroy concluded by referencing the INDIA bloc’s ‘Save Democracy rally’ held the previous day, asserting that the BJP remains politically secure in Tripura until 2047, despite the challenges posed by the CPI(M) and Congress alliance.

BJP’s Outreach Efforts

Both Saha and Debroy have expressed their support for the electoral roll revision and have accused the INDIA bloc of undermining constitutional institutions. The BJP has indicated its intention to take these issues to the public, seeking to clarify its position and counter the opposition’s narrative. The ongoing political discourse in Tripura highlights the tensions between the ruling BJP and the opposition, as both sides prepare for the upcoming electoral battles.

The BJP’s strategy appears focused on reinforcing its commitment to democratic processes while challenging the credibility of the INDIA bloc’s actions. As the political landscape evolves, the implications of these allegations and counter-allegations will be closely monitored by both supporters and critics of the respective parties. The outcome of this political rivalry will likely shape the future of governance in Tripura and beyond.
