CM Dhami Inspects Damaged Rajpur Road Footpath After Citizen Complaint

The CSR Journal Magazine

On April 17, 2023, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami conducted a direct review of a complaint received through the Chief Minister’s Helpline. This proactive approach was taken instead of merely handling the issue through official files. The complaint, lodged by Vivek Madan from Jakhan in Dehradun, highlighted concerns regarding the condition of a footpath on Rajpur Road.

The footpath was originally constructed to facilitate pedestrian movement. However, during the laying of underground electric lines by the Uttarakhand Power Corporation Limited (UPCL), the footpath was reportedly damaged. The work involved digging up existing pathways, but according to the complaint, the subsequent refilling was inadequately executed, leading to sunken tiles and an unusable footpath.

During his visit, Chief Minister Dhami emphasised the need for proper coordination among departments while addressing such issues. The Chief Minister’s Office stated that he utilised video calls to show officials the condition of the footpath directly from the site, ensuring that the officials were aware of the situation on the ground.

Concerns Over Public Safety

Expressing his concerns regarding public safety, Dhami noted that despite the underground installation of electrical lines, some wires were still visible above ground at various locations. This situation posed a potential risk to residents and pedestrians. He underlined the necessity for meticulous planning in future infrastructure projects to avoid similar inconveniences.

Dhami articulated that repeated repairs not only disrupt public flow but also lead to inefficiencies in resource utilisation. He insisted that construction and installation work must aim for completion in a timely and effective manner to serve the community better.

In addition to his primary focus on the complaint, Dhami took the time to engage with local residents and shopkeepers during his visit. This included discussions on their experiences and any other concerns they may have regarding local infrastructure and services.

Future Inspections and Commitment to Address Complaints

As part of his commitment to responsive governance, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami announced plans to conduct regular inspections throughout the state. He instructed Chief Secretary Anand Bardhan to initiate a dedicated drive aimed at addressing similar grievances that may arise in Uttarakhand. This approach is intended to ensure that complaints are resolved in a timely and coordinated manner.

Dhami expressed that such ground-level assessments are vital for effective governance and help build a framework for improving public services. His administration focuses on transforming the way citizens’ concerns are managed, thereby enhancing overall accountability.

The visit and review of the complaint illustrate the Chief Minister’s effort to ensure that public issues are promptly addressed. Direct interaction with citizens allows officials to gain insights into the practical challenges faced by local communities. Boh Dhami’s commitment to assessing and resolving issues is aimed at fostering better relationships between the government and the citizenry.
