Freshly settled in New York, he had recently navigated homelessness and transitioned from an abusive job to working at Salaam Bombay, a restaurant located in Tribeca. Khanna vividly recalled, “One day, Mira walked in with her very young 8-year-old son, Zohran.”

Fast forward to present day, the young boy who once visited the restaurant returned as the mayor of New York City. Mamdani attended the Iftar event and participated in the traditional ritual of breaking his fast by consuming a date before settling down for a meal curated by Khanna.
