Ceasefire Collapses: 14 Killed and 78 Injured as US and Iran Trade Strikes

The CSR Journal Magazine

The United States launched a series of airstrikes across Iran early on Thursday, escalating tensions in the region. This military action occurred shortly after Tehran allegedly targeted US-aligned nations in the Gulf, jeopardising a fragile interim agreement. As a result of the ongoing exchange, there are rising fears that diplomatic efforts to halt the conflict might collapse.

The attacks reportedly expanded beyond earlier ceasefire violations, with sirens heard at least thrice in Bahrain, which hosts the US Navy’s 5th Fleet headquarters. Missiles and drones were reportedly aimed at Kuwait and Qatar, while alarms also sounded in Jordan, where American troops and aircraft are stationed. This series of events highlights a significant escalation in military confrontations.

The series of strikes followed a statement from US President Donald Trump, who indicated that recent Iranian assaults on vessels in the Strait of Hormuz signalled the end of the ceasefire. Trump warned that continued aggression from Iran would inevitably lead to further escalation of the conflict.
