BSF Constable Kills Senior After Dispute at West Bengal Camp

A Border Security Force (BSF) constable has been taken into custody after allegedly shooting his senior colleague dead at a camp in Murshidabad district of West Bengal on Saturday night. The incident took place around 10:30 pm at the Dhuliyan BSF post, according to officials.

Both personnel were deployed in the region as part of enhanced security arrangements following recent communal tensions in Murshidabad. The BSF had increased its presence in the area due to violence that erupted over the Waqf (Amendment) Act earlier this year, which resulted in multiple casualties and widespread property damage.

Constable Opened Fire At the Senior

Authorities said Constable Shivam Kumar Mishra opened fire on Head Constable Ratan Singh Shekhawat after an intense verbal argument escalated. He used his service rifle to shoot Shekhawat, who succumbed to his injuries. The constable was apprehended shortly after the incident.

BSF officials confirmed that both men belonged to the same battalion the 119th and were stationed at the Dhuliyan camp during their deployment. “The exact cause behind the incident is being ascertained,” a BSF spokesperson said, adding that a Court of Inquiry has been set up to investigate.

Who was Ratan Singh Shekhawat?

The deceased, 56-year-old Shekhawat, was a veteran member of the force, having joined the BSF in 1989. He hailed from Jaipur in Rajasthan and is survived by his wife, daughter, and son.

Officials are continuing to probe the situation and said more information would be released as the inquiry progresses.
